  1. Yesterday
  2. There were 2 strong bursts of aurora. 11-11:30 then 11:40-00:00 roughly. When the first birst was dying down, things turned blue in the camera. Green was gone and a there was a little pink. I noticed that it actually appeared clearer to the naked-eye than through the camera. Did anyone else notice tat?
  3. Waited nearly 20yrs since the last (and only) time I’d had a good view. Phew! Hope we get another one a bit earlier I the evening in the darker nights of autumn for the youngest to have a look. peter
  4. Have done, crazy magnifications. It’ll only take 1.25” ep, so I use a 24mm wide ep normally. Needs a solid tripod. I’ve flocked the inside of the tube, the secondary baffle and the baffle tube to help the contrast, though it’s still a little less contrast than other scopes. For high power views it’s a cheap and potent option, though you can’t get low powers unless you accept plossl width fields. peter
  5. Hard to believe that I witnessed that in my own back yard. Always thought I would need to go Iceland to see them. The moon also looked good tonight bless it.
  6. I had a look at this with one of my boys and we got a few pictures. He went on his phone to share some photos and discovered the internet is already awash with people photographing this with their phones and sharing with each other on mainstream social media.
  7. I was doing polar alignment and preparing for another session of the Lion Nebula. I was disgusted when I saw clouds. No, again? But the clouds were strange. Redish? Pinkish? 🤔 Then I realised that it must be the announced geomagnetic storm. I never saw the aurora, so the first time is the one which I should remember all life.
  8. Wonderful display in Co. Clare Ireland this evening, lost for words tbh just incredible, taken from my iphone
  9. Of all the shots I took (and I took a lot!) - this one is the most striking, I think:
  10. I've been waiting a long time for a clear night and now we get this 😡
  11. Just come in for a warmup and a cuppa. Had found a spot with a clear view North, high above the village. What a display! Regards, Mike
  12. Lincolnshire Wolds: MVI_1294.MP4 Canon G5 MkII
  13. I’ve got the Dob out. Seen it now… I just hope all these beams of coloured light don’t interfere with my observations!
  14. Nice show from here in Fort William, although normally we get the Aurora from the North. Tonight is was overhead and more towards the Southeast. Anyway, here's some shots from tonight using Canon 2000D at ISO 800 and ISO400 for 10 seconds.
  15. Fab display tonight. Here's some photos from our garden .
  16. Haha I was thinking about how we’ll be talking about this for years to come. The bad weather is soon forgotten!
  17. That is the Aurora 😁 I had the same feeling as I saw the sky slowly 'mist over' from the north. It suddenly clicked what it was. It is quite astonishing to see this. I took a pic of Spica being obscured by the Aurora. 😁😁
  18. A night to remember 😁 What did we do to deserve this ? - put up with all that rubbish weather over the past few months I guess 😁
  19. Made a complete mess of my imaging of Bodes 😄 but it was worth it. Taken in Camberley with Pixel 7a.
  20. Yeah, I thought it was clouding up as my images got a bit washed out and the guidecam image wasn't clear, went out to look and the rest is history.
  21. Didn't think I'd ever see it from here after a few attempts trying to see it. But the graphs didn't lie and the one around 1000 nT was a sight to see, I suspected something was happening as the north sky was imaging green, then overhead the wisps of cloud you often see when looking at the milky way, concentrated vision then made out pink/red hues like a giant tulip in the sky which then sort of shaped into the Seagull Nebula, but something like 90-120 degrees of the sky. Amazing. Was also fun as it lasted a while and managed to get a lot of images and footage.
  22. So asinh helps, but I seem to need to stretch the star mask slot when recombining. That seems white out the star colour. I think.
  23. My lens covers 122° and I can't get it all in!
  24. Yep WOW - the universe certainly put on a display for us tonight. It was extending from South rotating 360 degrees through the cardinal points - seemed to be centred with the rays appearing to radiate from the zenith. Easily visible naked eye and colours really vivid, best I've seen. What a treat. Jim
