celestron 20x80 binos

ok orderd some 20x80 celestron binos last night arriving tommorow.

whats the first thing i should take them out to view tommorow night and what can i expect to see with them?

two things I'd recommend. M45 Pleiades Cluster and also the sword of Orion - both made for these sorts of bins. As more of a test try and find M1 the Crab Nebula and M78 in Orion. you'll be hooked.

as to what can you see? too much to mention!

I'd be interested to hear how good these are, I've been thinking of extending my range of 10x50 and 15x70 to include some 20's...you'll have to post a quick review/comments when(!) you get chance to give them a go.

Hi Collyer911, another great target would be the Double Cluster (NGC869/NGC864) in Perseus. A spectacular sight which ever way you view it. I'll be checking it out myself with the new 20x90's when I get the chance.

20x80's, 20x90's I'm getting an inferiority complex here with my 15x70's

Try M35,36,37,38 and M31 Andromeda galaxy will be a highlight to any bino viewing session.

The moon!

Jupiter and its 4 inner moons are easy targets for 20x80 bins. No effort required at all compared to 10x50s. And the moons change position on a daily basis too.

also THE moon when the shadow line (terminator) is across the highly cratered area near the centre looks fab through the 20x80s. I highly recommend a tripod if you don't have one as you'll be outside for ages.

Id opt for m42 in orion. You can just get the whole of Orions sword into the field of view or 20x80s with the nebula in the middle. Its also at an easy elevation at the moment of you have them on a tripod

M45 is also pretty spectacular !

Thanks for the suggestions,still waiting for my tripod to arrive but had a look at the moon early yesterday before cloud came in couldn't see to much as I'm having difficulty holding them steady.

for low in the sky observing, try tucking your elbows in and resting them on your chest for greater stability.

leaning against a wall also helps. The tripod will help loads.

Tripod is a must. Being noon myself, I ordered a tripod for my 15x70's today. I've been using a rike as a stabilizer to start with. ;]
