just a note to say hello and share the joy i got tonite by viewing jupiter through my new 8" dobsonian. i have always been a student of the sky, but never got into telescopes unfortunately. the dob is not the fanciest telescope, but wow, seeing bands on jupiter and its moons (and even uranus tonite) was a great experience, i wish i spent half the time i spent reading about astronomy in my life looking through this thing instead:). i'm gonna dredge the forums for interesting stuff, thanks for a great resource

Welcome to the forum.

It may not be the 'fanciest' scope, but it is one of the most flexible, big enough to give nice views of DSO's and small enough to be easily transportable. And have you noticed how quick it is to set up?
