Show us your William Optics scope

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Having long looked at William Optics scopes as being "serious" purchases and perhaps with a twinge of envy, I have finally taken the plunge with a Zenithstar 73 III, and I am very glad I did.

While doing research I looked for dedicated WO scope owner's threads but couldn't seem to find any, so now the scope is with me I thought perhaps it was time to start one 🙂

Still waiting for a proper first light which looks like it will now be in my upcoming trip to Bortle 4 skies - no bad thing given my usual bortle 8!

Nice, I fancy one of these on a similar mount... but I can't decide on whether putting that money towards an EQ6R would be better and then I could have AZ-EQ6 for my two visual scopes and the EQ6R for my GT81 imaging setup. Once I get that out again I'll add to the thread 🙂

It's not clear from the picture but it's on an AZ-GTi. Had this up to about 130x in daytime which is around the sensible limit anyway, and vibrations settled very quickly.

RE the GT81 imaging rig, yes please post pics - would love to see it!

Yep I get it I knew it was an AZ-GTI so I was thinking £550 for the scope and £250 for the mount gives me £800 towards an EQ6R so would I be better off doing that and using ALL the kit I have now versus buying another setup like yours 🙂 🙂

This is mine bought last month specifically for imaging bigger objects. . ZS73, UNIguide and WO flattener/reducer. Only had one chance to look through it and was more than satisfied. Currently sitting in its case as I have my C8 set up for tomorrow's partial eclipse.

GT71 mk2 0.8x reducer flattener and the ASI 533MCPro. Mount this on an AZEQ5 which handles it just fine. Used only for imaging so never looked through it.

This is my lovely little WO ZS SD66mm. Tiny little thing that was very capable for its size. Still miss it in some ways, great as a spotter during the day too.

I've owned two William Optics scopes, a Megrez 90 and a Zenithstar 70. Both seemed nicely made scopes but didn't really grab me so I let them go. I didn't keep them long enough to actually take any photos of them, unfortunately !

I do like my ZS 71 even use it as a camera lens with 8 inches of extensions, I originally just wanted a  cool temperature gauge so the scope came free..

I dont have any scope pics to hand but this is my daytime camera lens extension so I can focus close with the WO ZS71..

True, it probably makes most sense to use what you've got... That said the AZ-GTi and Z73 combo is very portable! Mount is in the upper right pocket.

Looks like a great little setup Stu! I can see why you miss it.

For a minute I though this was a tiny WO scope thus far unknown to me! I have never owned a DSLR but strongly considering it now I have the Z73.

I've had a William optics star71 and now currently use a 2010 carbon fibre flt98 with a William optics adjustable flattener as part of a dual rig.

The thought of selling it has came across my mind a few times but can't seem to bring myself to put an ad out.
