DirkSteele
Baker Street Irregular Astronomers star party in Regent’s Park last night. We did solar early in the session and then waited for darkness to fall. Did a brief shoot out between these weighty lads using my APM LZOS 115 as well.

Swoop1
My C6 and HEQ5PRO engaged in a bit of solar. Wearing the ASI533MC for the modelling session but now switched to the ASI290MC for some closer work

Mr Spock
Long solar session today. Seeing isn't that good though
Paz
I had a couple of solar sessions today, a bit of white light and a bit of Ha with a nice easy going set up. There's still quite a lot going on.
Captain Scarlet
I finally got around to putting my Herschel Wedge onto my SV 140mm refractor, having just a bit earlier had it on my LZOS 105. Appreciably more detail on show through the 140. Full report here Edited June 3 by Captain Scarlet
josefk
Looking good Magnus @Captain Scarlet. Are you tracking with that set-up? I don't track and though i'm using a front mounted "total" filter at the moment (where what happens inside the OTA is a non-issue) i'm thinking about a Herschel wedge for my 130mm refractor but i've read about being mindful of heat gain on the blackened walls of the OTA from incident light from the solar image and nearly focussed solar image towards the back of the OTA if its not tracked (on axis). Cheers Joe

Cheers Joe No that’s a Skytee2, so not tracked. I’m mindful of that slightly off-axis possibility too and have checked from time to time in both scopes to see if outer walls get warm under those conditions and so far haven’t noticed any increase in temperature. I do swing it well away though when finished. M 1
markse68
finally getting some use out of my Tal 100RS and wedge i bought ages ago! Does seem nicer than solar film I was worried about uv but seems the lens takes it out so only ir to worry about and L filter removed that Sol without L filter with L filter Mark
Paz
I went out to a local spot to check out the moon at sunset and took a wedge along as the sun was still up for a while. The seeing was really lively compounded by me taking the wrong eyepieces and being stuck with too much magnification, but it was nice to be out.
M40
I've been putting a backpack kit together and with the exception of the battery I am just about there with version 5. This is a taster, can't wait for a clear night now to see what it can get. Number 5 is definately alive 😁

Tripod, mount and scope all compliment each other, IMHO. I have the Lacerta wedge. Very happy with it. John Thanks John, though it’s disappointingly wobbly Not sure yet if it’s the mount, the tripod or the adapter i made to join them- only just got it together so need to do some experimenting to figure it out. The wedge seems great! I see a lot of non-sunspot details in almost 3d with it that i didn’t see with film Mark
JAC51 Posted Monday at 20:15 Share Posted Monday at 20:15 Clear day at last so Baader HW mk1 and TMB 130mm allowed me to try out the white R-Sky solar hood. Did keep me cooler. Did show more contrast with stray light blocked off. Next time must remember not to wear dark trousers.
Vroobel Posted yesterday at 13:53 Share Posted yesterday at 13:53 After a precise PA two nights ago the Sun imaging doesn't require too much attention. It's nice to come back to the day astrophotography being well prepared. 🙂
Vroobel
Imaging yesterday (hopefully successful), visual solar astronomy today. First time the Hercules Herschel wedge works with my OVL bino and a 1.25" 10nm Solar Continuum filter. Also, an 1.25" Antlia ND3.0 filter is fitted. I'm going to test all my pairs with the wedge for first time: 25mm ED Starguiders (they works rather as a finderscopes), 18mm BCOs, 18mm BGOs, 9mm Genuine Abbe Orthos and 7mm Fujiyama Orthos. My 102ED F/11 required unscrewing it's originally fitted extension to reach a focus. Even with a WO 2x glass path corrector (Barlow?) it was still too long. I'm surprised, it wasn't necessary when I used an ND5.0 foil and a Baader T2 prism. Does it mean that the Herschel wedge has significantly longer light path than the simple prism? I will consider purchasing another 102ED F/11 and building an F/11 binoscope. 🤔 Edited 5 hours ago by Vroobel
Paz
Here is a great solar observing upgrade... a parasol with a really heavy base so I can wheel it anywhere in the garden to have some shade by my scope. It makes for a much more relaxed session, I can retreat me and my scope into the shade and I can have my scope just poking out so my head is still in the shade when observing. 2
Vroobel
Thanks! 🙂 I forgot that I have similar big parasol. The sun fried me a bit today. I covered myself and partly the scope with a white bedsheet, but I had to solve the problem with focusing, so I'm partly reddish anyway. 😁
