North American Total Solar Eclipse Weather outlook
rrb24 replied to lukebl's topic in Observing - Solar
Long term forecast models now include 8 April. From Pivotal Weather (used by storm chasers in USA): https://www.pivotalweather.com/model.php?p=cloudcover&rh=2024032700&fh=gif&dpdt=&mc= Check the animations. Still a long way to go and the below is only a model but the High/Low pressure areas, if they develop as modelled, will have a lot of influence on the clouds moving over or not.... Roberto -

Orlando, It's not difficult. If you struggle soldering the pigtails after taking them off the old battery, just glue them to the new battery. The old pigtails come off the old battery with a little bit of heat. Help yourself with sharp knife. I explained this to Geof last year also when he was looking for some. The batteries are simple 3V button ones. Amazon sells them by the dozens. Roberto

Congratulations on the arrival of 110GTX-030! That portable setup looks sweet! I am going to look up the bag you referenced. I plan to take a Stowaway to Mexico next year for the solar eclipse and it looks just perfect for the trip. Enjoy that jewel! Roberto -
Great shots! 👏 Roberto

Software to capture a total solar eclipse?
rrb24 replied to Michael Kieran's topic in Imaging - Tips, Tricks and Techniques
Also interested in this for the 2024 eclipse in my case. I've never had a DSLR and would like to use FireCapture or SharpCap to capture AutoRuns of bracketed videos of different exposure lengths. I have an APC-S CMOS which can fit the sun and corona nicely at decent resolution. I was thinking of getting the exposure settings from one of the online calculators and run as many automated videos during totality as possible (starting short and going long in mid-totality to capture earth-shine for example). Although I use FC and SC for all my planetary, solar, lunar imaging, I have never imaged an eclipse - so interested in what other people do. It can be done though: http://www.zam.fme.vutbr.cz/~druck/eclipse/Ecl2019ch/Tres_Cruses/TC_347mm/0-info.htm with an ASI1600MM. Roberto -
