Waiting for their news conference due in a few moments, but from what I understand the engine on the starliner capsule didnt fire to put it in an orbit to catch the ISS.

Now it's in just a stable orbit, and they're working on the problem.

Not going to be a good thing if they cant resolve this being SpaceX's next launch could be the one testing it with a crew.

I've read a little about our push to get astronauts back in space without using the Russian bus.

Its depressing that when the almost 7 billion got split up Musk got a third and Boeing two thirds.

Now SpaceX is reusing boosters and seeming to really be on a roll, for a lot less money.

You're so right. Needs to be a team effort with our thinking moving to exploring space, not conquering it.

Sadly, the technology that comes from the advances in rockets and propulsion are also used in possible warfare, so the three big players, not meaning to belittle the handful of other countries reaching space, dont work well together.

New technology is coming along. Virgin Orbit is working on their satelite launching facility in Cornwall due to start operations in 2020/2021 with Virgin Galactic possibly launching from the same location for space tourism.

An aircraft will fly the rocket to high altitude before launching.

Spaceport Cornwall in Newquay still sounds a bit strange though. 🤔

When you mention Newquay this is what I think of. 😁

Watched the news conference apparently the clock was wrong and the craft was in a dead zone between two satellites so they couldn't correct it in time, they did say if it had been manned it wouldn't have been a problem as the crew could have corrected it and carried on to the ISS.

Dave

so another automation fail by Boing then?

Must admit I was half expecting musk's one to not notice the ISS was there and run straight into it... musta used a different team to the one that did the car non-guidance system.

Surely it isn't anything that Sandra Bullock couldn't fix with a fire extinguisher. Orbital dynamics; it isn't rocket science!

But sadly she was left at home this time as they didn't trust the tech enough to risk a human payload,
shame they didn't do this with the planes before they so disastrously nose dived terra firma.
