Conjunction Venus and thin crescent moon

I've just got back from a long walk up on the Downs to watch the sunset and the thin Moon and Venus on the return journey was the icing on the cake! Turning round to look where I had come from and Jupiter sprung into view - a special evening!

It was a beautiful sight. In the end I couldn't resist and got the camera out and tripod. Just a couple of shots. The first at more or less the correct exposure not to saturate the Moon. The second was over exposed to bring up earth shine.

Lovely!

I'm very much a novice on this DSLR lark, so must remember to overexpose for earthshine next time!

Thanks. My approach is to take a number of pics over a wide range of exposures anyway in the hope that maybe one or two will look good. What looks ok on the camera's screen outside may not look so good on the PC screen.

I also observed through bins, plus a few shaky handheld shots. Beautiful.

The screenshot looks like its from SkySafari.

Excellent planetarium for the iPhone and Android.

I think that I will get a copy. Thanks Ade.

Perhaps we could meet up in Dorset sometime over the summer. How are you?

Martin.

It certainly is sky Safari, and you certainly should get a copy, it's a very useful app.
