August 21, 2017: All set for the eclipse

Recommended Posts

I have reached Glendo without mishap at 03:10, found a parking place, set up the mount, and polar aligned it under dazzling starry skies. I picked up M33 naked eye, NGC 7000 was easy in my 10x56 binoculars. I am whiling away the time before dawn with the APM 80 mm triplet. Had lovely views of M32, M33, M42, M45, and M57. Venus is very bright in the east. Many people have gathered here, and the atmosphere is great. Fingers crossed the skies stay this clear.

The cloud is too thick to see the sun through for miles and miles here - its not going to happen for us - even though it was a only a little bite it could have still been interesting esp. as I had the kit for it :-(
