Hi Dave and welcome to SGL, unfortunately age does, in many cases, have an affect on what you can resolve at the eye piece, you may well have found a difference if you had started some 50 years ago, but what matters is, you have made a start and as you have said it is never to late to get involved in this fascinating hobby, enjoy the forum :)

Hello All, Thankyou for the welcome and words of encouragement. I neglected to mention in my earlier post that I am currently using a Skywatcher Heritage 130p  and considering at some stage buying a refractor. I joined my local society,King's Lynn & District Astronomy Society,a great, friendly group of people giving me loads of help.
