Hi Dave and welcome to SGL, unfortunately age does, in many cases, have an affect on what you can resolve at the eye piece, you may well have found a difference if you had started some 50 years ago, but what matters is, you have made a start and as you have said it is never to late to get involved in this fascinating hobby, enjoy the forum

Hello All, Thankyou for the welcome and words of encouragement. I neglected to mention in my earlier post that I am currently using a Skywatcher Heritage 130p  and considering at some stage buying a refractor. I joined my local society,King's Lynn & District Astronomy Society,a great, friendly group of people giving me loads of help.
