Hello from Leicestershire

Hi,

I live in the Leicestershire, about eight miles outside Leicester so the skies are reasonably dark. I own a Skywatcher 80ED and an Orion 200mm reflector but I am only a novice observer. I am retired and currently studying with the OU - a short course "An Introduction to Astronomy".

Thanks for all your warm welcomes.

For Luke and anyone else who is interested, the link for the OU course is -

http://www3.open.ac.uk/courses/bin/p12.dll?C01S194

If you are not new to astronomy and have regularly read astro mags and books then much of the content of the course will be familiar. However, I am finding the revision useful and the course also teaches you to look at things with a more analytical eye. I have opted to take the course over five months (you can do it in two) and I'm finding the pace quite leisurely.

After this, I am going on to the short course "How the Universe Works" which I believe is more challenging -

The courses are not cheap, £130 each (£140 in September), but I paid for mine using Tesco Clubcard tokens (you can only use them when registering for your first courses)

Hope this is of interest.

Hi Geoff

Welcome to SGL. I've heard nothing but good things about the OU courses. You get them for free if you're an OU tutor (or at least you used to when I worked for them about 15 years ago). Something for my retirement, I think.

Cheers, Martin
