Welcome to SGL. A 5" will show lots of objects, especially if you can take it out of London from time to time

Warm welcome to SGL. If you are new to astronomy download a planetarium program, lots out there but try Stellarium, its great and free to  be found here :--  http://www.stellarium.org/ . This will help you see where objects are in the sky, also a couple of books worth having are 'turn left at orion' and 'sky & telescope pocket star atlas' ...You are now good to go!
