Hi, can anyone advise us please. We are first time users and the scope we bought has no manual. We have set it up but not sure if we have done it correctly. Is the picture supposed to be upside down or is there something we should do to change it? Really sorry if this is a silly question, but we have no idea and cant find any info or manual on the internet, appreciate any advice available.

Hi There,

Really could do with make & model of your scope. However usually your view will be inverted vertically and horizontally without the use of a diagonal..And with the use of a diagonal laterally inverted!

If you could post a pic of how you have it set up currently it would give us all a better idea of whats going on!

Hi and welcome to the lounge,

you do need to give a little more information about your scope,

but most reflector and refractors give you an upside down view.

Good Luck and Clear Sky's

Hello Gary and Shelly and welcome to SGL!! Telescopes used for Astronomy usually have an "upside down" image because that's what telescopes do!! :p In order to get the image the "right way up" you have to add an extra lens and this adds more "glass" to the scope. Each piece of glass (ie lens) absorbs some of the light that passes through it thus giving a slightly fainter image. For "daytime" use this is no problem as there is so much light available and the extra lens is included and the image is the right way up. For Astronomy we are trying to see very faint objects against a very dark background - so the less light loss the better, we do without the extra lens and work with the inverted image. You soon get used to it and after a while it becomes "normal".
