Hi all :hello2:

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away... I was a keen amateur as a young lad, but when I joined the Navy I sold off all my stuff. Telescopes don't work very well on ships. Once I'd done my time life kinda kept in the way of getting back into it though I watched all TV progs on anything to do with space, astronomy, cosmology...

Nowadays, though unwell, I have the time and, more importantly I guess, was able to commute an old scrag end of a pension which got me enough to buy the nice new shiny kit that I now have,

All I've got to do is learn how to use it :)

Already the forum members have been a great help with working out how to use my camera. Like everybody else in the UK at the moment I'm watching rain run down the windows... but can't wait to get out there again.

Thanks everyone :hello2:

Everything I've seen here tells me this is a good forum, and I've been on-line one way or another since 1980 (before the internet was even invented) so I know a good 'un when I see it :)

£300 phone bills logged on to sites in the States at a whopping 9600 baud (note the lack of MEGA bytes after that number) were not uncommon!

Hi Squeaky and welcome

I noticed in another thread you were thinking of changing your focuser to a dual speed.

I've just done this myself, its very easy to do and is a great improvement on the standard single speed that comes with the 300p.

Changing to something like this - http://www.firstlightoptics.com/skywatcher-focusers/dual-speed-crayford-1252-inch-focuser-for-skywatcher-explorer.html will be a straight swap or you could go the whole nine yards and fork out for something like this - http://www.firstlightoptics.com/moonlite-focusers/moonlite-cr-dual-rate-tri-knob-crayford-focuser-for-newtonians.html which is well worth the money but not cheap. The Moonlite does need adapter plates and and you need to work out what one has the right amount of travel for your scope.

If you are going to do it then its best to start another thread and I'm sure you'll get lots of help.

Mike

Hmmm. That moonlighter certainly isn't cheap!

I'll have to give it some thought and if I decide to go ahead I will indeed start a thread.

Thanks for the info, and thanks to everyone who's said hi :hello2:
