Gee, it was cold, had to come in

Recommended Posts

I need some good gloves. I have some Thinsulate ones which are great but slippery on the EP's.... Anyone got any glove recommendations please? Don't want to drop one my Naglers do I now :icon_eek: Then again, don't want to have to retire for the night due to freezing hands either.... What about divers gloves? OR cut the finger tips of the Thinsulates?

Cheers, Steve

EDIT - inserted some manners like please :)

Some proper leather gloves have always served me well. Mine are lined with 'fur' (i suspect faux)

Also you will find that thermal underwear is a great boon when out in the cold as well as a couple of hot water bottles kept at the ready inside for when you nip inside

Fingerless wollen gloves and a pair of large insulated (skiing?) gloves to go over them seem to do the trick.

Fur lined boots, skiing trousers and several layers of fleece type tops with a decent windproof coat over the lot for the body. A seriously embarrasing fur hat with ear-flaps to keep my head warm!

Thanks for your thoughts.

As I said elsewhere, reminded me of getting off my Motorbike years ago - my hands were that cold ! :) I was observing round the back of my estate where its darker and got seriously worried I wouldn't be able to take down - could not feel my fingers they were that cold. Was also amazed how cold the metal bit get - painful to touch almost !

Cheers, Steve

I swear by a pair of thinsulate fingerless gloves I've got that have a sort of "fold-down" mitten pouch. I was just outside doing some observing with Mk.1 eyeball and my hands were the only part of me still warm when I got inside. My phone was reporting -10°C!

you need to keep the core of your body warm that way your body doesnt try to rob the heat from your pinkys and toes

Yep, and for that you need a decent heated jacket.

There is only one IMHO. (YouTube review

)

I have jacket and gloves (and decent boots).

Now all I need is a heated nose warmer :)

I got some fingertip-less Thinsulate ones from Fleabay, cheap as well. Arrived today and brilliant. Got my dad and my son some whilst I was at it.

No more early retirements due to freezing hands I hope :icon_scratch: The other night was write off due to this problem after two hours, but then again at -11C its not surprising :)

You can get fingerless thinsulate gloves, also fingerless ones with a mitten that comes over from the back of the hand when you don't need your fingers :icon_scratch:

Thats exactly what I use, fleece mittens which fold back to reveal fingerless gloves for the more dextrous tasks.

Very toasty and used then down to -15c last year.

A hand warmer pouch in each jacket pockets works pretty well :)

Decathlon I think, sell silk gloves for skiers/cyclists which are good, and I also have some long knitted finger-less gloves that stretch to my elbows. The finger-less gloves were donated by my wife, she got them as part of a free gift from La Redoute on line. (She says normally they retail for about £8). They are excellent for really cold nights!!

Aye, keeping core warmth is the thing. I was out a few weeks ago in freezing conditions - the adventure was marred mostly by the meniscus frosting up, but I had me serious warm clothing on - four layers, two of which were fleeces, then joggers under ski pants (the ridiculous baggy snowboardy style ones - it's dark, so nobody can see you ...). Make sure all layers are breathable. But my fingers still got cold, even if the rest of me didn't. I'll have a look at some of the fingerless/mitten kind of gloves, as Thinsulate gloves are too clumsy for many tasks.
