    Newbies

    Hi and welcome to SGL.
  8. Hi Mark, welcome to SGL, what a great story.
  9. That mount has a load capacity of 10 lbs or 4.5 kilos so you would need to work out the weight of the gear you want to use on it. It is best if you don’t go to the mounts maximum capacity.
  10. Sorry can’t help you as I have never used encoders, I am sure someone will advise you soon.
  11. If you do a search for ‘cleaning a primary mirror there are lots of suggestions. When I cleaned mine I removed the primary mirror and cell any put it in a bowl of clean water then added a little washing up liquid on to the mirror and very gently rubbed it with my finger. After you are satisfied it is clean rinse the mirror with distilled water and prop the mirror and cell on its side and allow to drain.
  12. Hi Richard, The extension is not plastic but I think you could probably file one of the grooves deeper so you don’t have to cut the peg off. Incidentally I used my 3/8” steel tripod with an EQ3-2 Mount for a while and did not find it a problem without the peg.
  13. If you only have a few specks on the mirror I would leave it alone as they will not have a detrimental effect on your viewing. I have only cleaned my Skywatcher 8” Dob once and that was only because I thought it had some fungus on it which turned out to be funny coloured dust.
  14. Hi Kevin, welcome to SGL from another guitarist and astronomy nut.

So it’s your fault we have clouds 😀 welcome to SGL.
  16. Hi and welcome to SGL. I have the same scope and I have added a few more eyepieces to my set. There are lots of decent eyepieces to choose from and many will advise BST starguider as a good choice which they are but so are most Plossl eyepieces. Skywatcher, Celestron, Revelation and Vixen all do reasonably priced Plössls and would be a good upgrade from the ones you have, especially the 10mm. You will find all the help you need from the very knowledgeable members of this forum.
  17. Hi Richard, welcome to SGL.
  18. Hi Andrew, welcome back to SGL.
