The Skywatcher 3/8” stainless steel tripod is a big improvement on the standard one assuming it is the same fitting.

I had a problem getting an eyepiece tight enough as the screw was in an awkward place and could not get a tight enough grip. My solution was an M4 x 20mm knurled head screw which allowed easier access but the unexpected added bonus was the extra length enabled me to get the screw really tight.

As previously mentioned the OTA has to be level and pointing north. Have a look on YouTube for the Astronomy and Nature review on this mount as he explains it very well IMO. -

They are a tight fit but they do come off with a little persuasion. -

That’s a handy looking stool John, does the seat swivel up and down? I have been looking for one but they all seem to have ratchet adjuster.

The Skywatcher AZ5 with aluminium tripod is very portable and can take up to 5 kg. It also has slow motion controls.

I have the Skywatcher version which is the same as yours and it has given me some great views of Jupiter and Saturn in my 200 Dob. John has provided you with a list of possible causes that you need to check out. I am sure you will sort it out.
