  1. The views from my 8” Dob are far from sub par, as are the views from my 10 x 50 binoculars.

    Hello

Hi and welcome to SGL. Great scope you have chosen I’m sure you will love it.

    Hi Antony, welcome to SGL.
  6. Why not get a pair of 10 x 50 binoculars, they will give you some great views and you don’t need to worry about mounts etc.
  7. I have the 127mak and EQ3-2 mount and find it to be a very useable scope especially since I upgraded the tripod to the stainless steel type. The standard focuser has also been very satisfactory.
  8. Not had any problems with mine either, clutches work fine and completely silent.
  9. I have had my 200P Dob for nearly two years and I wouldn’t part with it as it’s a very easy scope to use and gives great views.

    Hello

    Hi Gary, welcome to SGL.
  11. I have the same scope and the views of the moon are great, what size eyepiece are you using ?
  12. Maybe they like being told off by the mods 😲😀
  13. The purpose of a finder scope is to align the telescope with the finder to make it easier to fix on the object you want, in IMHO the Svbony should be fine.
  14. Don’t forget to take into account any extras that you add such as eyepieces, diagonal and finder to calculate the total weight.
  15. O Thank you both for educating this fairly new astronomer, I appreciate it 👍
  16. Welcome to the frustrating world of astronomy 😀
  17. I had a small window last night so the Mak 127 was put into action for 20 minutes. The images were very clear and as I looked at the top edge I saw what looked like an arch which stood out because it was quite high and looked like it was hollow. I have never seen it before so I wondered if anyone could tell me what it could be, or have I just not noticed it before?
