  1. There always seems to be problems with these Magazine sponsored projects. They are far from inexpensive either, and not something I personally would invest in. I sympathise with those who are badly let down, but it is always going to be a risky undertaking. Better to by a Boxed Build If possible, it is more likely to contain all the parts required.
  2. Excellent job on this one, really ticks all the boxes. Well done.
  3. Who owns the Dobs above Steve?

I'm simply a fan of large aperture scope Mike. Seeing them all lined
up gives me Goose Pimples. Largest mirror I ever made was a 14", I did a 16", but never
got around to finishing it. It was a thin plate glass  blank anyway, so I wasn't too confident
it would be a successful outcome.. I'm in the threshold of  Digital Imaging, and
the bill for that was large, so all the gear and no Idea is where we are at presently, but strides
have been made, and hopefully I'll get there.  Bottom line is, If it doesn't work out well,
I'll have a good sale, and go into  Big Dob Land myself. .
Hope you and all the Big Eye guys have a Brill. 2018. :icon_salut:

I love that pic. All of those dobs are beauts.

My own 16" DIY truss Dobster is nearly finished...just got to apply the heatshrink tonight and tweak the alt bearings to lessen the stiffness and I am good to go...hopefully!

Great stuff Sam, Hopefully see you out on the battlefield soon then ;)

  4. That's a great gift to yourself Michael. Just think of the good Quiz Questions you can create out of that big book. Have a Good Xmas matey.
  5. I think a definitive answer to the question on this gadget is needed. Is It capable of supporting the power needs of a fully loaded Imaging rig throughout a long data capturing session on a winters night? Mount drive, Focuser, Filter wheel, Cameras, not forgetting Dew straps. How does it react to prolonged Cold Temperatures for instance? It looks very compact for sure, but does everything good come in small bundles? Battery technology has improved enormously for sure, and at the price, this unit looks attractive. But, has it been trialled by anyone ?

As long as you're safe matey, that's the important thing. Always best to employ a Pro. with Electrickery .

Blimey Jim, have you got your own Generator outside . Looks like a section of Nasa you have there. Nice though.
  8. Very Innovative, and very well constructed too. I love the Colour, which relates strongly to Vega, Lyra's Alpha Star. Not sure If that was by design, but it suits so well. I wish you both a very happy Union, and in time you produce some little stars of your own. Best Wishes..
  9. HehHeh,!! Your sense of humour is alive and well Stu. But I will submit an entry soon, no Idea what yet, but it will be Astro. related ?.
  10. I know matey, it was a damned cheek Posting my comment when I've not yet entered myself yet. I just intended it to be in the spirit in which you created the Topic, and I'm sure it will endure. I'll pitch in soon.
  11. I think the Ref. is favouring the Home Team here. We need to go into a Huddle to discuss this blatant favouritism . Anyway, since when colourful pictures of squashed Zits qualify as Astro. Pics.? But, to be fair, he did state it wasn't fair.
  12. RC or similar For your Drone Jules ? Postie just delivered a set of new Floor mats for my Qashqai .
  13. Well never mind JOC, at least you didn't whine or spit a dummy out . It's just a pity Xmas has passed, that would have made a nice Seasonal Card. Jupiter sitting atop the tree. I reckon these Smart Phones are getting more effective with each version.
  14. Does it for me, nicely framed with plenty of decor to enhance the whole Image. Now, did you turn the Bath Taps off? .
  15. Yeah!, allowing that through, would precipitate a whole raft of strange entries. Nice to see a picture of the Shuttle again though. They have their place history cemented forever. They did a fine job of work. The two that didn't survive, didn't through no fault of their own. Tragic human safety measures failings.
  16. Well done you guys. Planetary observers will be very grateful for this information. Good stuff indeed .
  17. Is you scope a fast f/ratio? If so, F5 and faster, the secondary will need a slight offset. both a little away from the focuser, and a little towards the main Mirror. The pds Scopes are primarily for Imaging, so that offset should be applied.
  18. As with all my previous purchases from First Light Optic, my latest one, the newly released EQ6 R Synscan Mount, arrived on schedule yesterday by FedEX Courier. Two very large boxes delivered to my door by the driver. A weekend had intervened between my placing the order, and delivery, but one has to say, damned fine service. I waited until late evening to open the main container, and when I removed the Polystyrene topping, I was gobsmacked by the beautiful mount nestling in it's preformed bed. All other bits neatly packed in the same manner. Even the wife managed a " Mmm!, that looks really lovely". So that's a good start . Thanks Flo. people for your good work, I'm looking forward to commissioning this baby.
  19. Drat, I meant sectioned, not sanctioned. However, as you claim the rank of Master Imager, you are immune from the latter, but take note, you are being scrutinised. Now, I must get back to Film four, I'm watching Prometheus, and it is good.
  20. Captured the Green Flash on Venus begad. That's way beyond the Call of Dirty . You're just showing off, I call for sanctions against this man.

That is a superb sight and well imaged Vicky. Globulars are intriguing, and very interesting objects, and a popular target for Astro. Photographers. One would Imagine a sight to behold if on a Planet orbiting one of those stars, I think there is a separation of at least 1 light year between the closest pair. However, an observers night sky must be a mind boggling vista. Congrats on a nice job on this.
  22. Some Mighty Fine Instruments on show in this thread. I know this is exclusively Refractors on display, But The forum as a whole is blessed with a huge array of Optical Quality of all Types, Sizes, and Brands, from the modest Reflector and Refractor, to the higher ranges of both, with their Exotic Objectives. Together with the supporting equipment that makes it possible to achieve what the owners strive for, it make a mind boggling display to behold. More Importantly, I feel the sense of pride that comes out from each one posted, and rightly so. Very rewarding thread this is. Enjoyed the Images and the comments.
  23. Class Act me lad. All over a Winner, and far too good even for APOD .
