  1. A big super cluster sized welcome to SGL! I may just have to pick your brain once in a while, I won’t bother you, too much. 😁
  2. To someone who knows diddly about imaging, this is an apartment in london. 😅
  3. Nothing to laugh at there, it’s a great image!
  4. It’s a beast! it must be a heavy one, would love to hear about a session under good seeing.

    Beginners Return

Welcome back! third time is a charm.
  6. Welcome! great choice for a scope.
  7. Oh my! as I scrolled down I was waiting for an image of you with a refractor on the summit of Everest 😆
  8. Oh wow, a refractor pan flute!
  9. Without sounding like I am bashing other designs, I would like say I think there’s something special about refractors. Just a half hour ago I was sitting in my catsperch chair and having a great time looking at the trapezium at high power. Seeing was not the best as stars shimmered and flared but even so, I was able to see E&F stars without issue, I find it fascinating to be able to spot such minuscule stars. Once in a while I would take my eye off the eyepiece and look up along this big beautiful refractor pointing out into the sky, I would process and absorb what I am seeing in those moments. Imagine what Galileo thought as he looked at Jupiter through his 40mm Telescope, one thing on my bucket list is to see his telescope in person. When I look through a refractor I feel connected to him through the centuries that divide us, I visited his tomb (not sure if he is actually in there) or it is symbolic or something but I must see his refractor, where modern science was born, I firmly believe.
  10. Wow, a big welcome to SGL! we're her to help and answer whatever question you may have. That optical contraption in the image, I have no idea what it is but I know I need one, though something tells me I can't afford it.
  11. That looks great! it must be a fair bit heavier on the back end now.
  12. Interesting question, I am inclined to say that the level of luminosity in the room would not change, light does not accumulate in a closed space then suddenly escape, darkening said space. If this were the case then I believe light would accumulate in a closed space so that eventually it would be infinitely bright until a door is opened allowing loght to flood out. We know light doesn’t behave this way. But I am not a physicist so this is just my layman’s analysis.
  13. Love the video! at first I thought I saw a filament moving at breakneck speed across the disc, it turned out to be your fallen eyelash.
  14. How about we all just pack up and move to the Atacama desert, we can build our own little village. Just make sure to buy whatever gear you want before moving, shipping costs may be brutal.

    New to astronomy

A big welcome, nice starter scope, a very popular and proven unit.
  16. Oh wow I love this idea! If i may expand on this. It would be great if one could see all the continents on a map here on SGL and see where others are observing. Maybe we would select a pull down tab and select our status which reflects live on the map, that would be neat. Though I am willing to bet the vast majority of pins would be in the UK, it would still be fun to see where we all are located.
  17. Oh WOW! this is one of the most beautiful images of the rosette I have ever seen! the range of colour, contrast, detail, and perfect stars make for a sublime image.
  18. Incredible experience! the telescope patio is just beautiful, regarding the 3" ES eyepiece, does it come with a set of counterweights?
