  1. Thanks Ciarán, i agree a dark background works well for galaxies, not too dark however. I just lower the white point instead of the black point. The Esprit is a fabulous scope for the money.
  2. Hi Jeremy, very happy you like it. It's nice to explore the background to spot all the galaxies.
  3. Thanks Dave. Not cheap I'll bet. I think you'll enjoy the 2600, it's been flawless so far apart from my flats issue. Cooling is great and no sign of dew issues, zero amp glow evident.
  4. Thanks Doug, i might give M51 a try next.
  5. Thanks Adam. New camera has been great apart from my inability to take proper flats. Not sure why yet as I'm doing the same things with this as i did with my 071.
  6. Hi all. Managed to grab this last week when i had a ridiculous 5 nights in a row, which coincided with the start of the lockdown here in Ireland. Missed the first of them due to illness but took advantage of the rest. It really was a very welcome distraction from the obvious. I hope everyone is safe and well. Ngc 4565 is an edge on spiral galaxy in Coma Berenices. At only 40 million light years from Earth and being about 1/3 larger than our Milky Way makes this a popular galaxy to image and observe. It's long been a favorite of mine along with the Sombrero due to that edge on view, similar to the view we have into the core of our galaxy. Captured with my Asi 2600mc through an Esprit 100 mounted on an Az Eq6 180 second subs by 176. 8.8hrs Processed in PI, PS and APP Best wishes to everyone Richard.
  7. Hi all, i hope everyone is safe and well during this difficult time. I wanted to make some of my data freely available to anyone who wants it. I'm hoping having some data to play with would be a welcome distraction to those with none of their own or those who just want to have some fun. First up is the Orion Nebula. 9 hrs with Asi 2600mc and Esprit 100. https://www.dropbox.com/s/76pwzmluo4ff52i/Orion_9hr.tiff?dl=0 Next is Andromeda 6 hrs i believe with Asi 071 and Takahashi Epsilon 130. https://www.dropbox.com/s/tu0n363m253uaot/Andromeda.tiff?dl=0 Finally Dust in Taurus. 6.6 hrs with Asi 071 and Takahashi Epsilon 130. https://www.dropbox.com/s/1swwjfaaev1r4wa/Dusty_Taurus.tiff?dl=0 Stay safe everyone and enjoy the data, don't forget to post your results here. Richard.
  8. Great detail in the crop, shows the resolution of this promising chip.
  9. Looks great. Did you add the mono ha as a layer or did you just add it to red channel? http://bf-astro.com/tutorial/addHa.htm This is a great way to do it.
  10. Very nice indeed. I've also been using Starnet on my images but using blend mode lighten to add the stars back in. Must give screen a go for comparison.
  11. Wonderful image. Mad how small this appears at that focal length.
  12. Superb, seemless mosaic. Something to be proud of.
  13. Enjoyed that very much Carole, i was drawn in to the images by the slow movement and very soothing music. I feel very relaxed after watching it. You're a fan of the Rosette too i see.
  14. Thanks, looks like it might be worth a visit with a longer focal length.
  15. That's a great image Martin, i don't recall ever seeing that blue area on the left. Was that in the rgb?
  16. Thanks David. According to clear outside it's bortle 4. I do have to battle against public lighting in the housing estate. Some targets are off limits for me as I'd be imaging directly above the lights. I keep the exposures short to limit the influence of light pollution. Typically 150/180 seconds at a low gain.
  17. Thats a wonderful first. Love the details and colour.
  18. Definitely worth a shot. If you would like to try out a osc cooled cmos i can give you a loan of my 071.
  19. I had another go at this when i got the calibration data. Something strange happening with my darks in APP, getting a change in colour balance when i apply them.
  20. 😊 If you can afford to keep your 8300 i think you should buy a good osc. The issue i reckon is which one? I wouldn't advise the imx071 simply because i had issues with reflections/Halos as can be seen in the Epsilon images. The imx571 is too new to have any sort of verdict on. The imx094 is great value at the moment with the release of the new full frame bsi sensors. If i were in your position I'd see how the 571 plays out over the next few months, images will start coming soon. Jarret Trezzo on Astrobin has some taken with the Qhy version.
