  1. I have my back to it at the moment as I am up against the wall.....Cygnus wall 😛 Nice shot Carl
  2. I can't complain. Even if my neighbour chopped down two trees in their garden, which they did last week, but left the tree next to my obsy standing. What they don]t realise is that it shelters my scope from the street light directly west of us. Three doors away that side. I always image to the East because that's where the darkest sky is. I leave my neighbours to think what they will
  3. Oh wow. If only my neighbour would do the same here. Happy for you Dave
  4. Thanks Wim, I tried the link to the repository but it failed ,saying no updates, so I removed it as PixInsight suggested it was not verified. I will try Geralds suggestion and rename or delete
  5. Good capture Dave. I can even make out the tail. Well done for 120s.
  6. Great photos. Its good to see the second image,3 miles away, I feel gives a much better idea of how big that crater really is!! Glad you got to tick off one from your list too. Well done.
  7. For Dithering, i would try the medium and go from there. Darks and Bias ( or short Darks of 2 seconds as I use ) can be created anytime. Just try to keep them the same temperature as your lights are taken. If there are no marks on the image, no dust bunnies, vignetting or dew then yes, you could create and use a library light, but beware than if you setup and tear down there is a tendency for dust to get on the lens or sensor that new flats can remove. It depends how particular one is about imaging I am not sure about using Bias with CMOS as it does make my ZWO ASI183mm pro images worse. Instead I use short darks as bias ( 2 second exposure ) and this helps. I know some create Dark Flats but that implies darks being shot at the same level as the flats....My flats can sometimes be 0.01s. Which is almost a BIAS. If I use 2 seconds DARKS instead. I get better results. You will need to experiment to find what works for you. Hope this helps.
  8. I find dithering makes a HUGE difference to quality of image. Darks need to be the same temp and time length. If you have any dust bunnies or vignetting, then flats are needed. But try dithering, for me, it does make a big difference to the outcome
  9. As you have used NB filters, may I suggest reprocessing after you take a look at this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZZ4UlIQk0s&feature=youtu.be I used it and found it much improved my NB images.
  10. I remember this as a child but always thought it was later, maybe '64...Bemused to realise I was so young, then, yet still remember it so vividly......I wonder if this is why I hate the sound of crunching snow underfoot, like fingernails on chalkboard!! lol.
  11. M1 from last nights clear skies here in UK. Quick process. 6 x 600s Lights 100 Bias/Darks 25 Flats Pixinsight Atik 4120EX OSC on C11 @ 2800mm Mesu 200 mount Guiding cam Lodestar X2 on ZWO OAG on C11.
  12. I took this in August and because of it raining, I decided to process. The image was taken using Hyperstar and binned x 2. Because the image was smaller than I am used to I resampled in PI to double its size and reduce the square pixels when zoomed I have not taken any x2 bin flats/bias/darks...So, I just processed the lights Ced214 Taken using my C11 hyperstar with Atik 4120EX OSC camera and Baader fast NB filters S,H and O. No darks/flats/bias. Ha 17 x 300s x2 Bin SII 15 x 300s x2 Bin OIII 15 x 300s x2 Bin Thanks for looking.
  13. HI Dave Sorry to read you have such inconsiderate neighbours. If a polite approach fails, you could try contact your council's Environmental Health Officer, who may be willing to mediate. Else, raise a complaint with the council here -Light pollution Good luck.
  14. My understanding of the Law on the UK is that you have a right to enjoy your darkish sky astronomy from your own garden. If someone decided to put bright lights up next door, you can ask them politely to turn them off when not in use...i.e. They are not in their garden too. If thy are being unreasonable you can contact the local council and seek mediation. Knowing the info below gave me the confidence to go talk with two of my neighbours. I was polite and explained what I was trying to do and how their lights made it nigh impossible to enjoy my hobby. I took a couple of my astro images to show them too. Needless to say, they had no idea! They turned their lights off and my astronomy continues UK info
  15. Very nice Anthony. I like the simplicity. very cool
  16. Same here. A metal tube of about 10" diameter filled with cement, cemented in the ground. Solid!! The plate on top has four long bolts sunk into the concrete inside the metal tube to hold the plate in situ. That plate has four more bolts connected to the top plate for leveling. Where the mount sits atop that. If I had to do it again, I would just go with a concrete pier with some rods inserted to give it strength. Box it in to make it look neat. Much cheaper than metal tubing.
  17. Anyone invested or played with the AMD Ryzen 29XX CPU? The 2990WX looks fantastic for Pixinsight ( Drool 😛 ) ryzen-threadripper
  18. With my eyes I see artifacts on the bubble in the first image close up...Also slightly softer image. The second looks cleaner, sharper close up and less artifacts. Second shows more detail to me. And that's where it wins...I like detail Both are nice images though.
  19. Only after I took a good step back and looked properly at this galaxy that I noticed how BIG it really is. I should have used a focal reducer to get the whole galaxy in FOV. Adding some Ha may have helped too! And here I was trying to remove the faint spiral arms thinking it was cloud The larger circle is NGC 2403.
  20. Reprocessed....Maybe over processed, but reprocessed to give it more contrast
  21. Very nice, I fancy a cheese sandwich now
  22. Martin, I think that is a beautiful image. I love the colours. Basically, I love looking at it. Great shot. Thanks for taking your time over the period and also for sharing it here.
