  1. Very well done. I tried a couple of days ago, admittedly only half hearted. I could not find it. Plate solved to where CdC said it was....but nope. After 30 mins I gave up. The sky was good...I needed positive use of it. Will look again on a more iffy night.

  3. From WiKi NGC 2403 (also known as Caldwell 7) is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the constellation Camelopardalis. It is an outlying member of the M81 Group and is approximately 8 million light-years distant. It bears a similarity to M33, being about 50,000 light years in diameter and containing numerous star-forming H II regions. The northern spiral arm connects it to the star forming region NGC 2404. NGC 2403 can be observed using 10×50 binoculars. NGC 2404 is 2000 light-years in diameter, making it one of the largest known H II regions, even larger than Tarantula Nebula in Large Magellanic Cloud. This H II region represents striking similarity with NGC 604 in M33, both in size and location in galaxy. Taken this morning, 21 Sept19, I think it requires Ha adding when I compare with other images online. I also found it difficult to process considering how much data I had. A very dark image. Atik 4120EX OSC on C11 with OAG guiding. Mesu 200 SGPro 19 x 600s Light 40 x Darks, Bias, Flats Processed in Pixinsight. Thanks for looking.
  4. Very nice Brian. I did see your earlier NB post. It made me realise that I need much more data on my image of the Soul posted a few days previous I do like this image. You have giving it a much more natural look to it. Very pleasing to my eye. Thanks for sharing. Dave.

  6. I had a good start this evening. Managed 15 x 600s on NGC 7814 then moved on to other DSO's At 10 minute subs and while checking I decided I could do a quick process on this. It took longer than expected because I discovered I need new flats...A job for tomorrow Tidied a processing in Pixinsight. 13 x 600s Lights using IPDS LP filter on Atik 4120EX OSC camera. C11 with ZWO OAG and Lodestar X2 for guiding on a Mesu 200. Thanks for looking.

  8. Thanks Geof and Dark. I too like the second most. Although the second image only took maybe 10 minutes to process. I think it was the learning from the first image that helped a lot. I found that this data does not need lots of processing work...Just slight teasing here and there. Dave
  9. I posted the above image and afterwards thought, it looks pushed too much. The red is still washed out. So, I gently redid the process, from scratch, since posting. 11 minutes ago. Here is version 2. Comments and positive critique welcome. ( I'm still learning )

  11. From WiKi The Dumbbell Nebula (also known as Apple Core Nebula, Messier 27, M 27, or NGC 6853) is a planetary nebula in the constellation Vulpecula, at a distance of about 1227 light-years. This object was the first planetary nebula to be discovered; by Charles Messier in 1764. At its brightness of visual magnitude 7.5 and its diameter of about 8 arcminutes, it is easily visible in binoculars and a popular observing target in amateur telescopes. It was a great clear night until 2am when a high mist/cloud came in and got comfortable. Started imaging to the east for an hour before the flip. Carried on imaging until the neighbours trees got in the way. Managed to get 14 x ten minute subs ( lost 4 more for various reasons ). I processed using the Drag and drop STF onto Histogram method but this washed out the red glow. So, did manual stretch to get much better results. Rest was just curves and curves with masks. Thanks for looking. Taken 19/20 Sept 19 ( last night ) 14 x 600s Lights. 100 Bias, 30 x 300s Darks, need to create some 600s maybe! 30 Flats. Atik 4120EX OSC with IDAS LP filter Guiding using Lodestar X2, ZWO OAG, C11. Scope C11 @2800mm Processed in Pixinsight. Dave

  13. Thanks knobby, Although Ha alone is a great filter adding the O3 and S2 makes images much more vivid I recommend them.

  15. Hi Dan, Thank you for taking the time to create this PDF. You have put some very interesting bits of information in there. I will re read and check my Mesu settings to see if I can improve the guiding. Although I do not use modelling, I do use Plate Solving and have very few issues. However, there are some interesting pointers in there that I would like to try out. Every little bit helps. Thanks again.

  18. I have a dual setup. ZWO ASI183mm pro and ATIK 4120EX OSC. When imaging using both cameras, the ZWO uses the filter wheel. The Atik has only a IDAS LP Filter. When processing, the ATIK images, taken with Artemis, show the position of the filter wheel the ZWO was using at the time the ATIK OSC camera took the image. I have no idea how to stop this happening. When processing in Pixinsight, the ATIK OSC Lights show up as Filter1, Filter2 etc. and so produce as many final Master lights instead of only one! Apart from going through each and every Light Sub and removing the Filter Position then saving the Sub, which is very boring, Is there a BATCH method to remove the Filter position from all subs together? Thanks Dave.

  21. Personally, I just go for what I like. If the colours match everyone else's, great. If not, hey, I like them anyway, deal with it As seen here :)
  22. Bad collimation is where the stars look like the old silk fan to keep cool. Slight bad collimation is where a out of focus star looks cone shaped. The video you posted looks like the dew shield is in the way, not a collimation issue. If you do need to collimate the C11, and all other possibilities to remove the mirror have failed, Including pulling at an angle while twisting the ring, then you will have to remove the glass aperture plate. Easy to do but you need to make markings ( tape or chalk type ) on the glass and SCT before removing the glass to then get access to the back to release the mirror.
  23. I see. So the whole inner part, mirror, rotates within the 11" glass!!
  24. The outer ring screws off leaving the mirror with the three screws in place. You have to try and pull the mirror straight out, it does not twist.
