  1. Those look super comfortable Helen. I do like bamboo socks.
  2. One from the FLO sale. Ordered 1 pm Friday. Arrived 9am Saturday. That's what I call service.
  3. I think you have hit the nail on the head with your last post Stu. The only part of Jules origin post that I strongly disagreed with was his use of forum hype. The rest is in my opinion his honest thoughts on the matter and he is certainly entitled to them. I clearly remember the recommendations that you and other experienced members gave at the time Jules was considering his options. As I posted previously I was just about to purchase a120ED myself. The advice given was accurate and very helpful to me and again I as previously stated I am very happy with my choice, but I do think that the vast majority of the original post is relevant and Jules was right to post it. I think and certainly hope that he was not in anyway suggesting he was duped into his purchase. That is just not the way things happen on this wonderful forum. Perhaps it's time to move on Stu. I certainly for one look forward to the advice that you and other members so freely give here. It has been invaluable to me.
  4. Hi Jules. I bought a 120ED at the same time as you made your purchase and I can understand where you are coming from. Given the fact that the poor winter season meant I have few opportunities to use it I have been saving judgement on its capabilities. I have had some lovely sessions on the Moon and Jupiter and compared the views with those given by my 127 Mak. I have to say that I felt that there was very little between the performance of both, but I slightly prefer the crisper views given by the 120, in my eyes anyway. I was lucky enough to be able to use a 120 ED under truely dark skies at Astrofarm in France. This was mounted on an AZ/EQ6 mount that was permanently set up and perfectly polar aligned. Over 6 nights I managed to find 61 Messier objects and a similar number of DSOs from the NGC list. Most of the views were not spectacular. Just little grey fuzzies, but that is to be expected given the aperture. What I did get was the best views of Saturn I have ever had as well as lovely Lunar and Jupiter sessions. It showed me what the scope was capable of under the right conditions. Like you my observing at home is blighted by LP. DSOs, apart from the brighter ones are not an option but DSO hunting is not my thing anyway. Everyone will have their own views of a telescopes capabilities, but I am sure I will enjoy many years of viewing with the ED 120 and that is the important thing to me. Perhaps it will grow on you. I hope so, but at the end of the day it is your personal opinion that matters and your decision on whether it's a keeper or not.
  5. Wow. What a fantastic set up. I am green with envy. Now just go out and enjoy.
  6. You have certainly made an impressive comeback.
  7. Lovely video James. I have watched several times. Just love seeing those dark skies.
  8. Another lovey sketch Marios.
  9. Better than nothing Charl. It's pouring with rain and howling a gale here.
  10. Another lovely set John. That wedge certainly seems to do the business, although I am sure the skill level of the user is just as important. Keep them coming John. It's the only way I get to see what's happening as yet again it is a very wet windy day here.
  11. Very interesting report John. Never heard of this filter but will do a bit of research on it. I was thinking of getting the Baader filter, but you have given me food for thought. Thanks for the post.
  12. I have a SW 127 Mak and it is a lovely scope to use. I can not think of any reason to pay the extra for the Bresser.
  13. The nice postie brought me a 14 mm ES 82 degree eyepiece to play with. If only it would stop raining.
  14. Hi Scott. I would pay the extra for the ES 24. I find at this fl the extra FOV is a great bonus and the ES is of better build quality. I like the X-cels at shorter FLs but in this case I prefer my Maxvision 24 which is very similar to the ES 24..
  15. Sounds like a nice bargain, but can you check the scope out before parting with your cash?
  16. Also have a look at the Pleiades star cluster with your lowest power eye piece. That will certainly take your breath away.
  17. I got it from a member here a couple of weeks ago Stu. Not had a real session with it yet due to the weather only a couple of quickies.
  18. Lovely looking scope Jules. Having recently acquired a SW 120 ED I am sure you will be pleased with yours come Wednesday.
  19. Hi and welcome to the SGL. You have a fine beginners scope that will serve you well for many years. You will get great views of the Moon and planets, when they are available. Also you will be able to see many deep sky objects and split double stars. Your camera will let you take shots of the Moon and planets but as has been pointed out you can not automatically track objects and thus can not take long exposures. The main thing is to have fun while learning how to use your new scope.
  20. Very nice review. Thinking of getting one of these.
