  1. My 28x110 bins pick Saturn out nicely they are sharp enough to see the gap between the disc and the rings, they do not seperate any ring divisions. They can also pick out Jupiter & Mars nicely too. The only drawback is they need a very big heavy duty mount, if you want to see Saturn and other planets sharply and in colour I would look at a Maksutov 102 or 127 and bigger. A Maksutov 102 will sit nicely onto of a strurdy camera tripod with fluid head.
  2. Hello David Official baptised into SGL.. Guy
  3. Great report I've been looking at this scope for a while, thinking of cutting it down to fit binoviewers or buy some 100mm ED binoculars, anyway enjoyable read thanks.

  5. I as out last night under bortle 6 sky, nice views during clear seeing of the Crab Nebula. My 28×110 is mounted on a heavy duty self made fork mount + encoders on top of a Manfrotto 161MK2 , Nexus II helps find tiny targets and faint galaxies, this pixel 6 image was taken hand held in darkness 👍😁
  6. Blimey guys I'm itching to have a go.. DIY Alt Az mount would be my first choice as I have large 90degree binoculars on back order Well done for giving it a go Greg!
  7. I have the HR28x110 and decided against selling them a while back, I have a home build P mount which is essential for your viewing comfort. I also have a very large fork mount with encoders which I use up to around 60-70 degrees. The double cluster ,Orion nebular and Saturn are spectacular and you could get away with a large fluid head like this as I did in the beginning. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/203728321880?hash=item2f6f277d58:g:dCMAAOSwKeFhpNut
  8. Nikon have been making wide angle Aspherical lenses for decades, they are cheaper due to the special plastics been able to form over the same tooling over and over again.
  9. Ive been out of the imaging scene for five years and my goodness astro kit has come on . Great image!
  10. 18mm Starguider recently and other stuff in the past, 100% genuine company, they were the first to introduce this eyepiece to UK if I remember correctly, as what happens others have jumped on the wagon and pinched some of his crumbs.
  11. Hi Mike I took time out from Astronomy around the same time as you, just getting back into it via observing, I'm shocked at all the tech thats available in the last 3 years! Glad to see you active.. Guy
  12. Yes it could be said for 'any telecope' I suppose, take Hubble for one .. Have you got an extra ordinary copy of 130PDS, good for you if you have...
  13. I had the 107 under the APM brand, its was superb, bought it of Harrison Telescopes and it was reviewed in the BBC Sky at Night magazine , i wouldnt hessitate in buying the 140 https://www.skyatnightmagazine.com/reviews/telescopes/apm-107mm-triplet-apo-refractor/ 365 Astronomy show it also with 10% off. https://www.365astronomy.com/sharpstar-140ph-140mm-f-6.5-dual-ed-triplet-apo-apochromatic-refractor-telescope.html
  14. My Orion Optics VX6 did that, after a few heated emails with John @ OO about them collecting not me sending it back that agreed, they sent a replacement scope back with the same mirror figure report! err no, pick it up again.. 🙄
  15. Last chance, If it doesnt sell its going on Eb*y.... really? >10% hit in fee's not to mention ANYTHING can be returned on Eb*y
  16. My Skymax 127 @ 18mm does not show Mars,Jupiter or Saturn better than my 130 reflector @ 8mm , pushing the Skymax past 10mm degrades the view, both are well collimated BTW. Cool down is superior on the reflector whilst the Skymax sits nicely on my camera tripod with video head making it easier to lift from a cool garage and view between the clouds. You have a small Dob thats very portable, If I was you I'd spend the money on a second hand fancy planetary eyepiece for your reflector..
  17. There are some Apollo's for sale on here 15x70 , superb! or these https://www.firstlightoptics.com/observation-binoculars/helios-lightquest-hr-80mm-binoculars.html Helios LightQuest-HR 20x80
  18. Thats fabulous... Whats an SA Ken?
