  1. Only 10 minutes outside with the binoculars gave me a nice reminder of why I love this hobby.

Even with bad skies and light pollution.

The Moon will forever be one of my favourites.

  2. SGL, it's been a while!

To be honest, I've lost count :D.

The weather hasn't been great - but I've not had much observing chance! Hoping to get back into the swing of things though

Hiya Jonathan...... Nice to see you back on here :happy11:

    4. YKSE

      YKSE

Weather has been not that good here either, just haveto enjoy the opportunities it gives.:happy7:

  3. Clearest nights when you are at work, cloudiest skies when you're enjoying time away from work. Need I say more?

    1. mrjonathanbrown

      mrjonathanbrown

Im at work right now and yep clear skies.

      gooseholla

Cloudy here and i'm off, so don't feel too bad!

      David Smith

Was off last week, nothing but cloud and rain:(

  4. 77 notifications greet me upon return...

  5. I just noticed I've got a dime in my wallet. Looks quite a lot like a 5p coin but certainly shouldn't be used as one ;).

  6. Installation of OSX Lion was a success, seems to have fixed a few problems I've been having - in the process now of moving everything over to the new operating system (my hard drive has 2 partitions at the moment, one running Snow Leopard and one running Lion, still a lot of testing to see which I prefer though ;).

  7. Going to finally experience OS X Lion, on a partition on my hard drive that is. I wouldn't want all of my apps to start crashing ;).

  8. 1 month to go and all the building work and decorating will be completely finished, building work should be done in 2 weeks and then I can finally get my scopes out of hibernation - just in time for the solstice, typical!

      emadmoussa

      It's June anyway...

  9. Computer is now fine. Shouldn't have panicked in the end :).

      emadmoussa

I thought you were gone for two weeks :D

  10. I won't be on SGL for the next week or two - my laptop no longer works probably due to a hard drive failure. This may mean a new computer which means I'll have to delay getting my AZ-EQ6 even longer :(. See you all on the other side.

cant you use your phone, i lost internet not long ago for 5 days, drove me mad

    4. Naemeth

      Naemeth

My phone doesn't have that capability. I'll occasionally get chances to use other laptops / computers (like now), but not regularly....

  11. I'm impressed - the last astro thing I bought was 6 weeks ago!

I am okay :). With all the building work going on (nearly finished) I cannot get anything else due to dust and lack of space. Have no fear though, an AZ-EQ6 GT is on the cards after the work is done :D.

    3. Luke

      Luke

Ooh, very nice. Those mounts seem to make a lot of sense. Are you going to go imaging mad next season? We're using an HEQ5 even though it's really just Alt-Az that we need now and we're not likely to do any DSO imaging in the near future.

    4. Naemeth

      Naemeth

Perhaps a bit mad. The AZ-EQ6 will be the base for widefield imaging (DSLR + Nifty Fifty), deep sky (ED80), planetary (OMC200), white light solar (ST80) and in time a rather ambitious project which I'll post about when I'm ready to reveal (once it's set-up!) ;).

  12. The work on the house is nearing final stages, probably two weeks or so left... then I can bring my scopes out again :D.

Yes, the worst (for me) is still to come though...

      emadmoussa

It's summer anyway...another month or two or hibernation wouldn't cost you much :)

  13. Scopes packed away for house work next week. Dust here we come....

    1. tingting44

      tingting44

nice bit of spring cleaning :D

  14. Now I've done it.... both cases now sorted out, a third one ordered, and a new eyepiece too. That makes 3 cases....

    1. AlexB67

      AlexB67

What eyepiece did you get ?

    2. Naemeth

      Naemeth

      Vixen 42mm LVW :)

  15. Looks like it's come to this. Bootcamp it is....

  16. Spent the last hour and a half backing up my hard drive so I can transfer everything over to the new one - it's still not done :(

  17. and... now I'm back in the UK at home. The weather hasn't improved any since I left...

Mowed the lawn 2 days ago, lovely !

  18. Optimizing my computer ready for the complex world of astrophotography. Next on the list is a larger HD and more RAM. Still running Mac OS, but if the software isn't going to play ball I'll just have to Bootcamp. Don't expect any images from me for a considerable time ;).

Will be great for gaming :)

  19. In these past 3/4 days at Les Granges I've already had 11 hours observing, most with a 20" dob - stunning skies. Need I say more? :D

    1. Pig

      Pig

      You lucky chap :-)

  20. Slowly coming to the realisation that I can't fit anymore telescopes into my room. Not if I want to be able to get around properly anyway ;).

Do you need a baby sitter for them whilst you are in France ?

    3. Naemeth

      Naemeth

It was only when I tidied my room that I could get around properly too...

No babysitter needed, wouldn't want any extra dust fibers being created...

    4. Pig

      Pig

I come with a certificate of sterility :-)

  21. You know... watching The Culture Show which was basically about Lego does make me think about starting a Lego collection again. I couldn't get enough of it as a child... had 3 large storage boxes full!

    1. stevend

      stevend

I got a lego 42009 for christmas, first lego set since I was a kid. It took many hours to build and was a lot of fun on rainy, cloud nights. ;)

  22. Why did my bank have to give me a contactless card? Do they not know how unsecure they are... not to worry though, I've lined some foil in my wallet which should block the radio signals :).

It's actually a pretty robust system, holes have been identified and new cards are already closed to that. Like all new tech and old, it will be vulnerable, chip and pin was, the magnetic strip was and still is if someone can double swipe. I have used one for well over a year without incident. Totally agree though, if you don't feel comfortable with it, remove it. Lower your surface area to attack, it's a common IT practise called defence in depth.

  23. It's here :D

  25. Wine has to be one of the greatest bits of software for Mac ever.. it allows you to run a kind of virtual windows machine on your mac, currently going back and playing games that used to only work on Windows 95!

    1. Naemeth

      Naemeth

Doesn't work with all games, just a few. But it's brilliant that it does :).

    2. AlexB67

      AlexB67

I prefer wine in the liquid form. :0)
