  1. Great replies all, thank you. I just see so much in the forum where people question why the images are not great etc. I feel the understand of correct magnification along with expectation is important.
  2. Hi All, Thought I'd start a thread to discuss magnification. So as we know a telescope has a usable magnification. Now this changes with focal length & aperture, but then we also factor in where you maybe in the World and seeing conditions. So this got me thinking about producing this thread to provide all with guidance to achieve the best out of your scope on various targets!. So lets categorize these targets. It would be great to have a number users to provide detail on where they are, scope aperture & focal length and max magnification they tend to find provides the best result. The Moon Planets Deep Sky Double Stars I feel this may bring up interesting results, and I hope will provide help with observing. Rob
  3. Great report Thank you for posting. I very much enjoyed the read with my tea & toast this morning. I'm a real Meade EP fan and have been really interested in MWA, so this really helps me. As soon as funds allow I'll be looking to grab one I think. Best wishes Rob
  4. Lovely scopes you have there Stu. I'm sure they are an absolute pleasure to use. Enjoy! Best Rob
  5. Interesting indeed Gaz.. love it when you can fact check for yourself!. Hope the strip down and eventual clean & service goes well Best Rob
  6. Sorry to bring an aged thread back here. I just had one of these delivered (yesterday), I paid £14 delivered.. super value I have to say, and strangely I've popped a white 9x50 SW finder. I'm thinking about using a small tension spring on screws for the rings (if it allows). Still happy with it I have to say. Did you file down a flat? Rob
  7. Agreed. Butser hill is very hilly.... I used to head to the New Forest, not been for a while. but always worth a trip. The preference is to team up with another, but I have to admit I've gone solo a number of times.
  8. This is true.. I personally have only been working from home twice a week, then in the office / computer room the other 4!.. been odd being in a near empty ghost town office that usually has 65 people in!. Anyway enjoy the Astro. Ask about plenty of things here, lots of good knowledgeable people on hand to help!
  9. Welcome.. and enjoy the stay. Can only echo what everyone has said, so thank you and all those in your profession. I'm not in health care, but have been working all the way through also supporting & aiding 50 colleagues to work from home (still am). Astro always de stresses me too. Best Wishes Rob
  10. Always great to just have the impromptu session. And agree, the summer sessions can be very rewarding!
  11. Sounds great guys.. well done. Maybe a You Tube channel to compliment for catch up/replay Grant.. I know you shall have it covered! Good luck.. looking forward to it being a massive success of course. Best Wishes Rob
  12. Personally enjoy the summer observing. Like to call it 't-shirt' observing. Still plenty of targets around to enjoy, plus the milky way of course!
  13. Ohh carp!.. so sorry Stu. I'm sure that overwhelming sick stomach over came you. Are both mirror's ok?, could they + focuser be transferred to a new tube. Gutted for you.. really am. Rob
  14. Seems unusual that Bresser would cut corners on this. I'm sure it should of had a metal plate. Well I hope all works out well for you Rob
  15. Nice report Stu.. I'll have to try the ISS again, not done that for a while. I guess also your loving the AZ100?. Rob
  16. Wow, that's impressive!. Very sharp indeed
  17. I would certainly suggest once moved to its new home. Buy some IP security cameras to look over it plus a notice somewhere very visible that claims CCTV. I know that does not help right now, but just for the future Rob
  18. Totally agree.. I love it too. Only last week I tried to explain this to my Wife when I removed the Bresser dust cap from the 127L!. She just gave me a look to say 'Your nuts!, and I married you.' I'll keep the astro thoughts and comments to myself in future Rob
  19. Sorry to hear this. I would chat to pulsar in the first instance for advice, just hope its not to bad for you.
  20. A little.. I'm sure we all did , but you WILL get there I assure you!.
  21. Welcome. And as the others have said 'Hang in there!' this hobby is very much a marathon, and not a race. Joining a society or club will help you so much. I started out with the same setup, and my beloved 114 Newtonian showed me so much. However it really does take a little time to grab the basics of kit & star hopping. Once mastered you will be all good. Best Rob
  22. I've had a ETX 125 OTA and Skymax 127 in previous kit.. really nice easy to use capable pieces of kit. I do miss them. However cooling is everything with these little beauties! Rob
  23. Fun videos as always!.. keep em coming please. Great work indeed
