Hi to all.

I have just got my telescope set up to get me into astrophotography as a hobby.

There is a lot to learn and I am most definitely a newbie.  Anyway, scope and kit turns up tomorrow and hoping to get lots of leanings and insights from this forum to make the journey as interesting as possible.

J

Hello and a warm welcome to the forum :)

Do not hesitate to ask question as AP has a steep learning curve. As long as you keep at it and ask questions, you'll get good results fast !

Clear skies !

Hi and welcome to SGL from another imager! If you've got any questions then just shout. I hope that your purchase has also included the book 'Making Every Photon Count'? Something of an imagers bible that one!

Look forward to seeing you around :)

Thanks for the welcome - my kit gets delivered tomorrow and I am excited to say the least:

Celestron CPC 9.25 with wedge and 2inch diagonal upgrade and dew shield

Celestron guide scope and auto guider (nexguider)

ZWO USB 3.0 camera (will be trying this for guiding as well as using the auto guider to see the differences)

Focal reducer (to see if that helps with DSO photography???)

17mm Clestron ultima duo eyepiece

Celestron Luminos Barlow

Baadar solar filter

I know the CPC 9.25 is not the ideal scope for DSO - but initially I am going to just do a lot of visual stuff and planetary imaging to get a feel for it - using the ZWO as the imager.

I also have a Canon 70D for DSO on longer exposures - if I can get it to work (but not an immediate thing for the next 6-12 months)

I have started playing around with PHD2 (for when I guide with the ZWO as opposed to the nexguider) and also Nebulosity for image capture and processing (though the Canon software for image capture and settings is also very good).

Don't really know what I am doing yet and fully expect my first images to be blobs of light  or star streaks - but hey, not going to get discouraged and you have to start somewhere!

One problem I am already seeing is the relative lack of support for Mac OS X ... don't really want to use windows in a VM or bootcamp.  Think my cameras will work in PHD though and the Canon will work in Nebulosity 4 (not sure about the ZWO).

Anyway will be trying stuff out as of tomorrow!  i am a trial and error guy with A LOT of patience so I guess I am well suited to AP!

Hi and welcome to the forum. You're correct in there being plenty to learn but at the end of the day none of it is really difficult and the stars aren't going anywhere soon so there is plenty of time.

Clear skies and hope you enjoy your stay here.

Hi JayStar and welcome to SGL, enjoy your new scope and the delights and frustrations of AP when you get down to it. A copy of Steve Richards book is, never the less, an essential part of the learning program, available from FLO see top of page, enjoy :)

Ha - my first astrophotography challenge - how to remove a screw that was made of swiss cheese and is now completely destroyed, so I can actually mount my dovetail bar!.  Not the nod pf challenge I was hoping for but hey ho.  (If Celestron were a person I would slap them for being so cheap! :) )
