M42 over 3 years

I thought it might be interesting to look back at my attempts at M42 over the last three years and compare. As I'd pulled them all together, I thought I'd share..

All taken with the same 450d

Konus Vista 80s, NexStar SLT (AltAz)

C80ED, Unguidded

C80ED, Guided HEQ5

The reason my first attempt is so read, I used a Semi APO filter to help with the CA, and it removed a lot of blue.

Practice, practice and more practice in all areas (my processing has got a lot better too) is really important.

Makes me want a guider... not really! Nice to see the progression over the years. By the way, is your camera modified John? You've maintained a lot of the nice blue reflection nebulosity, which leads me to think maybe not...?

Thanks all... Lewis it's not modded. The red in the first is the CA filter I used removing all the blue.

Great progression. The first image looks a beauty and there is a clear development and progression with the last image being superb!

That's interesting John. I actually prefer the colour of the first one but the detail of the last one is going to be difficult to beat.

i'm amazed by the first pic - a small-ish scope on an ALT/AZ mount - I wouldnt have thought it possible to get such a good image

One of the problems I have with processing my M42 was the choice of pallet to use, I preffer the pink tones.

When i was doing mine i did a bluer one and a pinker one just deeping oh what I tweaked.
