Hello from Scotland

Hi,

im Robert from east lothian, scotland, im 17 and just started taking photo's of the stars, ive got a canon eos 100D with a zoom lense but cant afford one of those big powerfull telescopes :D so my photo's are basic, :)

Hi Rob and welcome to the forum.

I wouldn't underestimate the quality of pictures you can take given the results seen in last year's astronomy photographic competition at Greenwich. However, deep sky photography requires a fair bit of kit, a fair bit of time and a lot of luck with the weather. The first episode of the BBC's Stargazing Live did include a number of deep sky images that cannot be obtained using the method outlined in the photographic section which I thought was a bit unfair and will no doubt contribute to false expectations. I would certainly not give up on astro imaging and certainly an imaging rig can be put together over time if buying 'used' equipment but it still not the cheapest way to get into astronomy.
