Partial Lunar Eclipse - 2023 OCT 28-29

A Partial Lunar Eclipse will occur during the night of 2023 OCT 28-29 for observers throughout Eurasia and Africa, including the British Isles.

Below is my preview graphic for the upcoming eclipse as seen against an imaginary blue wall to make the shadow fully apparent. The predicted event timings are in BST (UT+1), but will occur at essentially the same real time for all observers experiencing nighttime if adjusted for time zones. The depicted orientation and Moon altitudes are for an observer in London, England.

Photos and descriptions of the eclipse would be welcome additions to this thread.

I managed to view most of the umbral eclipse up to the maximum, here in Fuerteventura, but then the clouds got in the way, so I gave up. I had quite a few people showing interest in what I was doing and some took photographs through my camera viewfinder. This is the last picture I took of the eclipse.

Managed to grab some shots tonight between the clouds.

I really couldn't be bothered setting up the scope like I wanted to, so a simple tripod, ballhead and remote shutter release for these. All single shots with Canon 77D + EF 70-300 L, cropped in with some minor sharpening added.

In-camera HDR blend - with an offset halo. I couldn't replicate this with camera's bracketing mode, so well done to the in camera software!

Second image, note how the shadow has moved 🙂

And a widefield shot at 70mm, bringing Jupiter into shot.

This was the best I could manage through the occasional gaps in the cloud.

Very nice Andy 🙂

I wish I'd got a scope out but the conditions here were so poor I honestly didn't think the clouds would break !
