Not seen this guide book in person before. Nice and compact. Bought used.

That looks like a great field book as well as a fireside observation planner. I must have wasted countless hours looking through books and charts, planning my observing sessions. Then chickening out because its too cold, or I'm too tired, or its too dark outside. I can always find an excuse why I shouldnt observe! Im not lazy, Im just highly motivated to do nothing if I can get away with it.

OITH! It's an old favorite! I had a couple of copies. The author is a charming fellow who autographs each one before shipping them 😊 He also has a pdf version that you can purchase, which is handy since it's searchable and printable.

I'm very sorry everyone.  FLO have just delivered me clouds, lots of them, and they may drift to other parts. Also in the boxes of clouds were:

-New stainless steel tripod

- mount extension

-Gtix

- dove tail to mount my st120

- astro essentials 32mm super plossl (for use with the mak127 recently bought from @SuburbanMak)

Postie also delivered a box that came from another member.... I'd bought the set of 4 Hyperions and the case that had been languishing in the classifieds unloved.   I originally only intended to get the 24mm but a bit of chatting and Steve made an offer I couldn't refuse so I've got the case,  the 5mm, 12mm and a second 17mm as well..... not sure what I'll do with 2 X 17mm yet.... one may get tuned with the rings I have or sit as a 2" 22mm .

Weather forecast says clouds until March..... I've not got out in February!

looking forward to hearing how this all works out, should be a great rig!  (may even be a couple of clear hours tonight in the South...)

I decided I needed one so I bought it, then I decided I didn't need it so I sold it, then I decided I did need one, so I bought another one. Makes sense doesn't it?

That's why I thought the cartoon was appropriate.

A slightly battle scarred 50mm Takahashi Finderscope arrived at my Tak Hospital this morning, complete with Tak Green finder bracket.

Now, after some delicate surgery, which required dismantling, a little fine sanding, protecting the Made In Japan sticker, then respraying the finder tube. After which the green finder stalk was given a Tak Blue makeover and placed in recovery.

And finally after only a few hours, in pride of place on its new telescope companion.

Daylight pic's to follow eventually, probably on a different thread.

You're lucky to find a copy Jeremy.  I bought the latest edition from Canada a year or so ago.  Up till then I had used the first edition for many years. Also have the pdf version.

Its the only guide I ever use at the telescope.  Since Ive had the Starsense Dob it's been even better as I just have to look up the designation of any object and less than a minute  later it's in the eyepuece!

I thoroughly recommend it, it's just a shame it's not more easily available in the UK, postage from Canada is VERY expensive.  Everyone should have a copy.

Well, I'm a bit late with this.  A close friend sent it to me last Christmas as a present.

W.F. Denning is one of my astronomical hero's, and if you are a fan of Telescopic Work for Starlight Evenings (still available in various editions)  you are likely to be interested in this.

I read this over Christmas. Very interesting.
Only problem is all the typos, often several on the same page and many dozens in total. It looks like they skipped proofreading. I found that a bit offputting.

I did notice this but there's not that much available about the great man, so I was willing to overlook this.  😊.

I think you're right though, that these days typos and mistakes are far more common-place than they used to be years ago.

I'd be happy to do a free finder respray John, if anyone's brave or daft enough to let me loose on their precious Tak finder.

At last, the Mewlon has landed!

I ordered it from Robtics.nl which had one in stock, and somehow the tracking with the delivery company went awry and the box was sitting in the rain outside my front door while the tracking insisted it was still in the warehouse in the Netherlands.

Anyway, both the box and scope are absolutely fine - and it’s just as well packed as you would expect from Takahashi. It’s a beautiful looking scope and a perfect size. I’m really looking forward to first light with this. Thanks for the inspiration @JeremyS. As my other half said, ‘It only took 7 months for you to get bored with the last new scope!’IMG_9490.thumb.jpeg.688ed466f489023a79a51bb758af7863.jpegIMG_9493.thumb.jpeg.6ecb2c1b2f636fe7aa272467eaeaa79b.jpegIMG_9496.thumb.jpeg.bd8e7ae26c0cf74d94d8b7fb0e258973.jpegIMG_9497.thumb.jpeg.a5a1db671748a9361fdd7048cf830041.jpegIMG_9498.thumb.jpeg.f6a2b11552c69d772d233e3bfcc89b87.jpegIMG_9500.thumb.jpeg.ed3aaa2d9468437256cb4ca6dfe52be4.jpegIMG_9499.thumb.jpeg.d5c62b09146dc525c20056df4720a6db.jpegIMG_9501.thumb.jpeg.89c139f044ff13c8bbac69b057a45d68.jpeg

This, delivered today, is s novelty I've wanted ever since first seeing them in other people's collections. I was high-bidder at the Goodwill auction site.

Smallest "naked" two-eyed instrument I have.

My Mayflower "naked" monocular now has a companion.

It definitely needs a make-over! I'd be willing to spray paint your scope black if you like Neil? 😉

Postman delivered this beauty today! Ordered on Thursday, it took less than 2 days to arrive from Germany to France. That was fast!

I'll finally be able to image small galaxies. It's a whole new territory for me, I guess I'm in for a lot of head scratching and problems I never faced, but I'm very excited to put this to test!

It came with a nice Losmandy dovetail bar, but, for the life of me, I can't figure out how this beast can hang off-balance being secured by only 3 M4 or M5 screws... they seem way to frail to hold the telescope. I need to investigate that!
