Much better pics here in the ad. I guess I’ll have to do a side by side with the FC-76DCU now 🤪🤣 Very fine looking example of a classic 3 inch refractor @Stu 😄

bosun21
DPD and the postie today with the last of my bits and pieces. An electric focuser complete kit from Vasco in Portugal, a ZWO ADC and a Baader 2” to 1.25” clicklock. The electric focuser makes such a difference focusing accurately at high magnification on a Maksutov.

Everything is held in place very securely; this was shipped to me just with a cardboard outer and it arrived safely with no damage 👍

The wooden case is worth the price alone! It looks mint and the optics on these 70's Japanese 3" refractors at F/12 will be very, very good. Get some modern 1.25" eyepieces in it👍. 1

It will look very good in the corner of my office when not being used. Hopefully the optics will be good, I need to dig out my 0.965” to 1.25” adaptor and see what it can do. Will be fun against the f12.75 FC-76Q 👍

I didn’t think it would hang about and I’ve often wanted one. If I ever sell it, it will go on here first for the same price so someone else can share the fun.

Don’t like the look of it but at least I’ll be able to put some decent eyepieces in it. I’ve also got some very nice 0.965” orthos which I’ll try.

I should thank you really for the save 😉

DaveL59
Of course @Stu having ordered one of these also played a part in helping me resist the temptation 😉 Just arrived from FLO my Seestar S50 and the puck to convert an EQ5 tripod to 3/8 photo so I can use it on one of the taller tripods. Initial power up and mine spoke English, tablet easily connected and a quick focus check at some trees out the conservatory door, looking good so far 🙂 On charge using the tablet's USB-C and 20W charger now as its back to work for me for the moment. Edit: only disappointment is - no lens cap for when its parked. Will see if I have anything that'll fit as I prefer to keep lenses protected when not in use. Sure it'd be in its case stored but leaving it out charging and with kitties, good chance some hairs will find their way onto the lens. markse68
Haven’t bought much astro related recently but always fancied one of these but could never justify the price until this one showed up on abs. pipnina
I'd been eyeing up a medium format film camera for a while, and yesterday I pulled the trigger at a local store! Had carrying weight/size not been a concern I would have gotten a mamiya RB67 instead, but that thing weighs over 2KG with one of the shorter lenses and is about 2x the size of this tiny Bronica ETRS-i As soon as the clouds clear this is going straight onto my star adventurer! In the mean time I'm going to try and enjoy shooting 55x43mm negatives of more normal subjects and learning some light metering techniques.
Mandy D
@pipnina Nice! You can watch that depth of field disappear, now! I loved shooting medium format many years ago, but it can be very challenging. I'm off to look up prices on your piece of gear now. Hopefully, that will put me off buying one. 1

Depending on how much you spent on a MF camera back then, you might be disappointed at how cheap they are today if your aim is to avoid spending money haha. If the page I saw was correct, that suggested a mamiya RB67 cost $2-3000 new in 1970, then its value has certainly plummeted as you can buy one today with a lens for about £500, less if you gamble on an ebay purchase, which might require repairs.

Yes! Thanks for that! I also noticed that someone is doing / has done a Kickstarter for a digital back for medium format cameras with a price tag of $400. That just makes it worse! Although, I do love B&W film in medium format!
