Hi, I've just joined the forum. I am an absolute beginner in this area of study. I have some astronomy texts at home that I am going to do my best to understand. I also hope that if I read the posts on the forum I shall learn more.

I do love looking at the night sky with my eyes only: I am more of a theoretician by nature, and find myself wondering in my armchair!

From seeing some of the images referenced here I better appreciate the importance of an actual "encounter" with celestial objects. Even though the images are mediated through my computer I understand better now, how important "engagement" is. For an observer in the field, it must be great!

maybe a cheap pair of binoculars will give a bit more depth to your viewing,

if you look through the posts some mention lidl's selling some good ones at good prices.
