Betelgeuse dimming

I have seen some muttering on social media that sounds like its getting brighter, maybe this is it

It will be spectacular event for sure, if and when the demise of the big Red one reaches our eyes.

The sad result of course, will be the sad sight of a lopsided Orion. It will not be the Same. Sob, Sob!

I’ve often thought how many of the stars we see are actually no longer there. Are there any estimates out there?

I thought Betelgeuse didn't have enough mass to go supernova just turn into a red giant swelling up then shrinking.

The figures I've seen are in the region of 20 solar masses, more than enough for a very satisfying supernova.

Just come in from an enjoyable session, during which I had a good look at Betelgeuse and can say quite categorically that it is already substantially brighter than it was a week ago. I have no technical equipment to measure the brightness but to my eyes there was no doubt it is much brighter now.
