I zoomed around several Messiers when at full eclipse, just visual though. First glimpse of the year at the winter wonders.

Yes- the views I was getting of Orion et al were pretty good. Confirmation to me that Winter is coming!

I could see M31 naked eye during totality, and looked pretty good though binoculars.

How come a full moon attracts clear nights, whereas new moon nights are cloudy...

Yep, first sight of the winter stars. It was also the "darkest" I've seen it in yonks. Quotation marks since it was barely Bortle 7. Mind you it's normally Bortle 8.

I didn't read any of the media hype, sadly it usually leads the uninitiated to expect more than is really on offer.

As for myself, it's unlikely I'd have been awake for it if I hadn't been working a night shift.

I enjoy most naked eye atmospheric or astronomical events. Watching them seems to bring the sky into 3D. I took some pictures. Not too bad by my standards but Ididn't let that task draw me away from the visual treat of the lunar eclipse.

It was a great one, perhaps one of the best I've seen and well worth the build up here on SGL.

Unfortunately, even during totality, my sky was washed out by light pollution. I spotted the Pleiades using averted vision. Not exactly Deep Sky!!!

The sky was really clear during totality, could just make out double cluster from my area, a first for here considering usual LP

I recall back in 1999 that a work colleague got very worked up over the 'spiritual significance' of the final solar eclipse of the millennium coinciding with a new moon...
