Hi! I'm Gabrielle from Dominican Republic. I've had a weird astronomy obsession since I was a kid. I own an Orion SkyScanner 100mm telescope.

Tonight, I decided to get my telescope out for the first time in hope to get a closer look of Jupiter but failed miserably. At least I saw the Moon.

I have a lot to learn and I'm happy I join this community full of people who share my passion.

Hi Gabrielle and welcome to the forum. Of all the people that come together here from all over the world I can't remember reading about anyone coming from the Dominican Republic so an extra special welcome is in order! What are your skies like from your part of the world? Do you have problems with light pollution like some of us here in the U.K? Perhaps you might like to supply us with some more details over on the 'Beginners Help & Advice' section as to why you couldn't see Jupiter, so that we might be able to help you to get up and running for next clear night sky.

Clear skies

James

Thank you so much for your warm welcome! To answer your questions, I live in the capital city which is has a very light polluted sky and it can get pretty cloudy during the wet season. I can mainly see the stars close to the zenith.

I'm going to download Stellarium right now :D
