Ahoy!

Finally some clear skies just in time for christmas. After shooting alot of subs on a target soon to be processed, I decided to have a go at the Orion Nebula before throwing the towel in, I set up a quick series of 5min subs + 15sec subs for the brightest stuff...

First, let me show you the result of last time I tried imaging the Orion nebula, two years ago (my 2nd deepsky shot ever)

Unmodded dslr + 190MN (also my first scope)

Note that this is a newish reprocess, the first was true comedy when I look back at it.

RGB: 2*5min + 4*15s each color

Ho yessss...

Lovely colour balance, sharp detail, soft processing. The dream scenario.

And by Gad, that is seamless layer masking of the different exposure times.

A delightful M42.

Olly

PS I might even quite like the spikes: I usually hate them!
