as I watch my beloved canucks hockey team play thought I'd say hello. Have browsed the site for quite a while, finally joined and from the insight from the site bought my first 'scope in 20 odd years! sky-watcher 8 inch dob. first night spectacular view of jupiter and 4 moons! now 3 days of rain and counting. nice thing is there is always this site to peruse! glad to be part of this remarkable community!

If that's the off center cap - you can remove it for looking at the moon when it's too bright - it does slightly change the focal ratio but not enough to prevent viewing. It's just to reduce the glare and brightness that hurts your eye. Place it on the moulded lump next to it so you don't lose the cap :)

I reckon it could also have a solar application.
