  1. The mount will only drive in RA when it is tracking. If the mount is not accurately Polar aligned no amount of star aligning will be able to compensate for poor PA. Poor PA will cause a drift in DEC over time and as the mount will not drive DEC when tracking, star alignment obviously can’t overcome that!
  2. PA and star alignment are not related. PA aligns your mount and allows it to accurately track by just rotating in RA. Star alignment just tells the mount where the stars are. Having good star alignment WILL NOT compensate for poor PA in any way.
  3. All using a ROI of 640x480 does is use a smaller area of the chip. It doesn’t change the resolution as the pixels are still the same size so no loss of detail. Your frame rate and exposure are obviously linked. At an exposure of 1/60 of a second you can capture 60 frames in a second but if you change to 1/10 of a second you will now only capture 10 frames per second.
  4. Me, I’m always happy. Sorry, not having kids myself I didn’t realise they stop you from typing an additional 6 letters 🙂
  5. Well that’s a shame. By the time of your reply you had 7 posts trying to help you but not even a simple “thanks” from you. Good luck sorting your problems!
  6. Sounds like you are over complicating things with all those additions. Best to stick to the hand set initially until you have got to grips with the basics. If you talk through what you are doing to setup I’m sure SGL can talk you through things to get it sorted.
  7. Thanks for the vote of confidence in my images Dave. Here is one from last year.
  8. Yes, most people under estimate what can be achieved with WL. In my experience, hi res WL is a lot harder to achieve than hi res Ha so you don’t tend to see too many hi res WL images, so don’t realise what is possible with the right kit, capture and processing. A typical image would be something more like that below (no false colour on this one) so that’s what people tend to think is all that is achievable in WL. To be fair it’s not particularly dynamic and interesting compared to a similar Ha image so I can understand why people have those opinions. It’s not however the full story as hopefully my images have shown.
  9. You originally said you had seen some filters that capture 'some slight surface detail' but it will never be as good as a Ha scope. Don't under estimate the detail that can be achieved in WL as the details are far from slight with the correct setup. As the two setups are imaging two completely different things, you really can't make a direct comparison between the two. To say the detail in WL will never be as good as in Ha is somewhat misleading. I don't think this image lacks detail. It just doesn't look the same as a Ha image but why would it.
  10. I think you are a little confused over this. Solar “surface” Ha images and WL images capture two completely different things. So detail can be captured just as much in a WL image as in a Ha image.
  11. I’m very happy with mine. Collimation takes a bit of effort to get it spot on but holds well once set. Std focuser isn’t a complete disaster but needs an upgrade if it is to make a decent job of holding a cam, OAG and wheel. I have a Moonlite with stepper control which works well for me.
  12. What band width do you have? e.g. 3nm will be better than 5nm.
  13. You do not need a ‘Ha scope’ to see granulation. WL will show granulation.
  14. A Ha filter designed for DSO will not help with your WL imaging.
  15. It’s a great vid and is also in the solar imaging section.
  16. Related to the image you have posted, it is over exposed. You need to reduce gain and or exposure duration. Aim for a histogram of 50-70%. Are you saying this is also what you see visually?
  17. 2/3 is a good starting point and be prepared to go down from there.
  18. SSD is important for high frame rate planetary.
  19. Don’t know about NINA but as the OP is already using DUSK all they need to do is stretch the screen view.
  20. Can’t remember how (might be sliders at the bottom of the screen) but you can stretch the screen image in Dusk. You’ll have to check the manual.
  21. Going to need more than luck to catch a prom in WL !!
  22. You would think that someone would have something to say about this mount. Guess there can’t be many out there then.
