  1. Late summer and winter for the several nebulas. I am warming up on galaxy season as well in the spring, so pretty much all year round observing 🤣.
  2. Very nice report and it seems conditions were excellent. I was out last night and indeed the milky way had a lot of structure. I am in bortle 3. I have not managed the NAN without a filter even with my 8" Dob.
  3. Yes very pleased with the camera. I upgraded from the asi120mc-s to the 462mc. If you look my planetary captures they have vastly improved since I got it as I can easily get 300fps (on Jupiter) and ~200 (on Saturn) at ROI 640x480. The advantage is the IR sensitivity and it shows clearly. I am into ISS imaging and if you look under the 'Imaging - Widefield, Special Events and Comets' you will see how I have improved them based on this camera (do a quick ISS search on that forum and you will see IR and RGB captures). My best capture here: I have followed your posts with Neil and worth taking his advise; I have really improved both my processing and captures based on his recommendations on my posts. Similarly several of us have the asi462mc posting on this forum (a quick search on the planetary section with the asi462mc as a term will pull recent captures). Conditions are also vital as bad seeing will still be bad with any camera.
  4. Thanks. The vibrations were awful but I was too eager after my 2 week holiday break. I am currently going through my Jupiter captures but they seem to be suffering as well, not as good details as the captures during the heat wave.
  5. I have been away on holidays and it seems I missed some of the nice seeing recently. I was eager to have a go on imaging last night despite the gust of wind. Seeing was not terrible. Saturn in colour looks a bit messy. A combination with IR seems to tidy it up a bit. 8" Dob, manual, asi462mc, 2.5x TV powermate, UR/IR cut or IR pass filter. It seems that my whites are a bit overexposed although capture histogram was ~70%. Drizzle 1.5x and downsized to 80%. Order of images: colour, IR and IR-colour combined. I am quite pleased with the Cassini division as it is usually a mess.
  6. That's really impressive and puts the whole area into perspective.
  7. Stunning sketch. It is one of the nebulas I would love to see in the future. @Epick Cromwrote a nice report on it last year and combined with your sketch it is magnificent.
  8. Good to hear that. I am abroad on holidays and looking forward to some imaging from next week. The heatwave must have contributed to the awful conditions we had earlier.
  9. Stunning images especially the second one.
  10. Very nice images and very natural. Nice little cratelets around Copernicus
  11. Great report and several targets that I have not seen before. Thanks for the description. I have added them on my to see list.
  12. Excellent images and nice details.
  13. Great details on your animation. Very smooth as well.
  14. Excellent images. I am out of the country on holidays and it seems I am missing some good conditions.
  15. That's a stunning image Neil.
  16. Being dark adapted is paramount especially for dim objects; moon and planets not so much. I am on a fairly dark side and when my wife puts a light on in our kitchen, it is enough to lose the object or make it completely washed out. Another example is the Horse Head; even the brightness of Alnitak is enough to kill any chance of viewing it. Last time I saw it, I needed a good one hour in darkness. If you can dark adapt or at least avoid some bright sources, give it a try. I also avoid any kind of screens.
  17. Very nice capture and details..
  18. That's a very nice sketch. I really like the details you have managed.
  19. At least you got more of a reaction than my wife that usually tells me "is that it when I saw her things at the eyepiece" or "I am sleeping leave alone" 🤣.
  20. On In my experience it is possible to see it with averted vision once you know where it is but it is transparency and seeing dependent.
  21. You remember very well Nik. @OK ApricotI have managed to see the Cygnus area nebulas with my 8" Dob at bortle 3/4; I think if you can see the milky way you should be able to get some nice details. The NAN needed an OIII filter and I could make both the NAN and Gulf of Mexico. The Crescent was just about visible with the filter. The Veil needed an OIII but at exceptional night of transparency and seeing it was visible even without one but the filter did bring a lot more features. I looked at the Veil this year again and I think having the experience of visual has helped to see a lot more details and a lot easier. I do not have an UHC filter to compare (I am on the market for one). Some of my reports are here: I am currently visiting family in Athens on holidays and I can hardly see any stars (forget about the milky way), so I really miss my dark UK site. Let us know how you get along.
  22. Great images and details.
  23. Great set of images with nice sharpness and details.
  24. Lovely captures with a natural feeling to them.
