  1. Hi Went out early and set up my Sky-Watcher 127 goto , the views of Jupiter were really good with plenty of detail. I set up on my rear garden as this is a fairly dark site (apart from the odd security lights going on and off) Jupiter soon disappeared behind next doors roofs I turned my attention to view M13 which was very clear Then I looked at M57 M31 M45 and then generally looked around. My old favourites started to appear and I spent the rest of the night viewing the sky without any optical items ,Orion was good to see again. Last night set up my Celestron 6se with the Celestron dielectric diagonal which is a new purchase and spent an hour viewing Jupiter there were lots of detail visible but the clouds rolled in and cut the nights session short. I look forward to viewing the winter constellations conditions allowing. I have been using my home made observing chair these last few sessions and it improves the comfort no end. cheers for now
  2. Hi great report like being there're, have spent many long weekends in and around this area plenty to visit in the day time and great dark skies when conditions allow
  3. Great images I looked at them with a magnifying glass shows great details well done
  4. Hi thanks ,the timber that I had in stock was 18mm marine ply and the slots were cut at 90,0 the board but this made the seat at an uncomfortable angle .

The seat does have well fitted slide in fix only but it is reinforced with 2 ribs and I changed the seat to a more horizontal position which is very comfortable and I am making a padded cushion for extra comfort ,I introduced a foot rest for the higher positions but I have also adjusted the tripod s to a smaller height to suit the chair use.

there are no retaining pins as the close fit slots and the brackets appear to be sufficient hope this helps

That's brilliant. Thank you so much, particularly for the additional photos and explanation. Such a clever design.

      Many thanks for your help.

  5. hi great project and very entertaining would like to see it finished
  6. Hi I have the 6se and I can only think that your lattitude and longitude may be set to south instead of north just a thought
  7. Hi obviously they are being used to dry their washing. this is a growing problem with no regards to the night environment ,we have blackbirds singing at midnight and I don't know how hedgehogs and the like manage
  8. Hi I admired your observing  seat earlier nice job  great timber

  10. What about this type from Celestron it on my 15x70 pro bios
  11. Hi thanks it was not a zero cost it cost me £4.80 for the tee hinges and the timber for the back leg everything else from stock in my workshop
  12. Hi In all the years that I have been observing the night sky some 60 years I have never had an observing seat, I have always stood up. it must be an age thing but wobbles and back ache mar the nights viewing'A few years ago I did a diy project with my son to make a shelf in his Vw van to maximise storage space and the shelf was constructed from 18 mm marine plywood. There was half a sheet left over in my garage waiting for a project and the idea of an observing seat was born. I drew one up and machined it out with the help of my brother who has a workshop. tonight Jupiter was up this was at approx 7.pm so I set up my skymax 127 and the seat had first light it was magic needs a couple of tweeks but what a difference no wobbles no back ache. the seeing was not to good due to the bright Moon.
  13. Amazing I have viewed this many times in telescopes and binoculars but you just can't comprehend the amount of stars out there until you see this type of image great
  14. Hi I tend to set up a telescope if the sky is fairly clear at tea time an this has given me some good and sometimes brief views thanks kimboman
  15. fantastic detail thanks for sharing
  16. Hi all day here has been the most super autumn day. At 6pm I decided to set up my Skywatcher sky max 127 on a Celestron goto mount and as the sun set at about 6pm Jupiter was about 2oclock of the moon and Saturn was just visible above the local trees.. I first set up on Jupiter and wasn't expecting to see much due to the close proximity of the Moon, but the seeing was amazing with lots of detail and one moon just leaving the limb of Jupiter the banding visible covered more than 70% of the disc. I then tried to view Saturn but the seeing was bad and the trees didn't help. The Moon was now much higher and I spent some time viewing all the Moons surfaces and the clarity was great my final view was of Jupiter and it was still amazing with great detail then at about 9 15pm the clouds rolled in so that was that truly amazing and its starting to get nippy.
  17. Hi Once again set up early using my Celestron 102 GT refractor and my newly acquired Sky Watcher 127 sky max and my Celestron 6se to be honest the best image was from the Sky Watcher very crisp and clear. I could make out all four of Jupiters moons with one just near the disc.Saturn also appeared the best in the sky watcher ,the largest image was from the 6se but the two brightest were the sky max and the refactor. All in all there wasn't much in it but I was just curios , I have had superb views from the 6se in the past so maybe it was just one of those things. As stated in previous posts the mount for the 102 GT refactor is not very stable and I modded a surveyors tripod which improved stability no end but after lots of use it is to heavy so set about modding an aged but great condition Meade field tripod and this has proved to be the best solution it is much steadier and it is suitable for the Sky max, my Meade ETX 90 and my Sky Watcher 80 ST refractor. With the Celestron se6 mont I have used the Celestron GT refractor which is also very stable but obviously due to a focal length of 9.8 it can't be used for really high viewing. So I can use all my scopes with two mount both goto. I also had company tonight
  18. Hi I set up my MEADE ETX 90 earlier in the night (now its early morning) the skies were cloudy but I was able to view Jupiter for a short while . The clouds soon rolled in thick and fast and they didn't seem like they would break so I put my gear away. through the night I kept getting good seeing visually of Saturn and Jupiter,I have Just been out and the skies are crystal clear with the Plough ,Auriga .the Pleiades Taurus and the Hyades so plainly visible. I have not used any instruments so I can't comment on the seeing through a telescope, looks like it could be a great night now in this neck of the woods
  19. Great photo, and the colours are amazing. I spent a couple of hours last night from 10.pm looking at this area and the area from Cassiopeia toPerseus with my 15x70 binoculars fixed to a Manfrotto tripod . this was a nice change from using my telescopes gorgeous wide fields of view.
  20. Hi I had problems when I first had my Celestron 6se. set up your latitude and longitude, make sure you set them to north ,then follow the prompts on the hand set date ( American version month day year) set the time ,daylight saving and universal time . If you select solar system press enter then the object ie Jupiter, manually slew to Jupiter get the image in the scope and press enter then use the handset to centre Jupiter then press align you should be good to go tracking should be set. A good tip is to ensure that the telescope is set to level use the bubble supplied to do this tracking should be sidereal remember when set up the handset controls reverse you can alter this . A good purchase is the book by Micheal Swanson "the nexstar users guide" persevere it will become a doddle
  21. Thank you the 6se is 1500 focal length so the 20 mm eyepieces gives 75x but the bino appears to increase this somewhat . binoviewers are brill so comfortable cheers
  22. Hi earlier tonight the sky looked promising although a little breezy. I set up my Celestron 6SE at 7.00 pm a small 90.d corner which is sheltered from the breeze, and at 7.30pm I went out and I could see Saturn and Jupiter. I set the scope onto Jupiter first using my binoviewer and a pair of 20mm matched eyepieces ,the seeing was not to good on Jupiter so I slewed on to Saturn the seeing was much better so I left the scope running on Saturn. Soon the seeing became fantastic on Saturn and I stayed on viewing it until 9.00pm until the local trees obscured Saturn completely. I the set the scope back to Jupiter and the alignment was still spot on and I stopped observing at 9.55pm due to the seeing. This is the first time that I have seen good detail on both planets since last year with multi banding on Jupiter and a good banding on Saturn and I was well pleased
  23. Hi I set up my Meade ETX90 on my slt mount I used a matched pair of 20mm wide field eyepieces in my binoviewr. I could see Jupiter and set the go to there was lots of banding the views though brief were very pleasant clouds engulfed the sky and that was that .
