  1. Hi just completed one and a half hours looking at Jupiter and then a brief look at the moon. Jupiter was splendid lots of detail in my 102 refractor on goto. The moon made its appearance and it is the first time in weeks that I have managed to view it, but clouds soon rolled in. I was unable to view Saturn due to my local trees obscuring it . All in all well pleased as the weather has and sill is unkind. I noticed the dreaded condensation is back as its very chilly here at the moment, it may improve next week fingers crossed
  2. HI great topic . I purchased a binoviewer and could not believe the difference it makes objects do appear to be huge. A astro friend of 40 years came over last week and I set up the binoviewer on a Meade ETX 90 and he was amazed at the difference it made to the image. I can not use it on my Celestron 6se as it is to heavy they do not suit all instruments but when they do its magic. My friend was smitten and he is going to purchase one.
  3. Hi I really like this image what scope is your 80mm
  4. Hi great image I keep a telescope at the ready as you never know how the seeing will be from one hour to the next well done
  5. Hi all I have been out since 9..00pm using my 102 refractor x100 firmly at Saturn and the Jupiter. Saturn wasn't to bad at times good but my local trees soon interfere. I then concentrated on Jupiter and the seeing at times was fantastic with good detail showing ,I didn't expect that as the clouds were moving over the target. the Moon then came along and I then called it a night. I aim looking forward to viewing the moon at about last quarter when its kinder on the eye. All in all well pleased
  6. Hi I to have a phobia of equatorial mounts and have made two of my own in the past. Now I have two Celestron goto mounts which I now adore now that I have got to grips with their foibles. I really enjoy the AP that members show but I have been mainly visual so these types of mounts suffice but its a case of horses for courses.
  7. good topic I still have my 1970s 6 inch fuller scope newtonium dead basic but has given great service . Mirrors could now do with a recoat but it is more of ornamental than used

  9. Hi nice report ,I had a similar session on the 12th August, this to me is the best way to observe.
  10. Who would have thought that a cardboard ring could produce such an interesting set of topics well done
  11. Hi I went out at around midnight to spot the Persids I saw total of 7 one was super bright and it went through the square of Pegasus. I took out with me my Celestron 15x70 binoculars hand held to scan the constellations ie Cassiopeia,Perseus,Cygnus and Pegasus. The double cluster in Perseus was great as was the Andromeda galaxy really bright the coat hanger and the Pleades Allin all it was very enjoyable ,to use binoculars shows great star fields sorry if some of the spellings are incorrect 10 out of 10 for me
  12. Hi just finished 1 and a half hours viewing Saturn and Jupiter, to star off the seeing for both planets was good .JupiterSaturns disc and rings were really good but the local trees always claims it . Jupiter was very good to start with but the seeing diminished rapidly so I decided to call it a night until later so I could hopefully catch the Persids but the seeing is not very good at the moment but I will go out later. Two neighbours came by and they both own telescopes so I have given them both open invitations to join me at any time they wish the more the merrier
  13. Hi I have 3 really useful boxes for my 6se and Meade etc and 80mm refractor these are lined with foam underlay 12mm thick. They do various sizes and are reasonably priced might help regards
  14. Hi great set up now enjoy them all the best
  15. Hi a great image,I recently obtained a Celestron 102GT refactor with I have replaced the original mount for a more stable one but still uses the goto function . As this is a recent purchase the moon has not been visible but a new moon has just arrived so I am looking forward to viewing it soon. I have used it on Saturn and Jupiter and was well pleased when the seeing was good(not tonight)
  16. Hi earlier tonight the sky looked promising so I set up my ETX 90 and my Celestron 102 gt. I located Saturn at about 9.45pm and I set both telescope on to it, the seeing was not to good and the best image was in the 90 ETX. Jupiter was in the area and it was disappointing with very little detail to be seen but we can't win every time but the rain had stopped and the air was noticeably chillier.
  17. Hi thank you ,was both right and wrong the tool will be useful for future forays once again thanks
  18. Hi I have had a great time last night/this morning viewing firstly Saturn which was not to bad seeing but the local trees soon obscured the view. Jupiter then came into view what a great sight .I believe the moon was Io that appeared to touch the planet ,then as I carried on viewing the gap got wider and wider. I used my Celestron 6SE on one set up and my Celestron 102GT refractor the views were stunning in both and the refractor just had the edge on clarity both mounts were goto and my neighbours joined in and were fascinated with the images. I had set up both mounts on the off chance the sky may clear and it paid off(not sure which moon was the closest to Jupiter)
  19. Hi thanks I agree entirely good luck with your house search. My garage is built into my house it is forbidden to put a car in there
  20. Hi I have been waiting for a break in the weather to observe Saturn and Jupiter. Tonight I went out and there they were I had a scope already parked in the garage and away I went Saturn was not to bad but a large cloud soon obscured it. Jupiter was in a clear space to the left and I did manage to get a decent view with two cloud belts visible and the 3 moons in a straight line to its right, suddenly the clouds rolled in and that was the end of tonights session
