  5. Hi I am looking at the Sun with my Coronado and I can see at least 8 prominences with filaments plages and sun spots at the moment it is very good seeing from my location I will also set up for white light viewing
  6. Hi very interesting reading I was having a similar conversation tonight with a friend of 40 years and I think that we have had a similar conversation every year. Nevertheless we still forget it all when we get a decent night and keep increasing our kit, I have now got into solar and this increases the observing odds, good luck
  7. Hi Its been a while since I have done any day or night observing due to the poor weather conditions in my area. Yesterday the conditions for solar viewing were ideal and set up my Coronado, and was not disappointed there were decent prominences, filaments, great surface details in general. Recently I purchased a Lunt herschel wedge from a fellow SGL member as I had read that the views were superior to a full aperture solar filter and I must agree the detail differences were greatly improved in that the sunspots were much more detailed. Also last night I managed to view Saturn and Jupiter and both showed good surface detail I used my Skywatcher 127 maksutove on a AZ Mountford this session a good double session best regards to all
  8. Hi looking at the Sun now and the largest prominence is visible I am using my Coronado with a Badder zoom eyepiece set at 12 mm

  12. Hi Saturday evening was so cloudy in my location so viewing was impossible so I am glad that I spent Wednesday Thursday and Friday So I saw 10 in total Dont be envious I miss the goodies on offer in your location all the best
  13. Hi I have just come indoors from another session of Persid meteor spotting. The forecast for tonight (sat 12 ) is not favourable in my locale so I went out at 11.00pm 11/08/23 to try to spot the Persid meteors and saw seven which were spectacular. This time I also took with me a pair of 10x42 binoculars and enjoyed looking at the double cluster,M31 scanning the Cygnus area also spotting the coathanger and generally having a good sky scanning session. Earlier Friday evening I also spent an hour looking at the Sun with my Coronado ,there were lots of surface detail including sun spots but there were only three small prominences visible a good session
  14. Hi last night at 11 pm the sky was very clear for a change so I decided to have a look for the Persid meteors. The constellations of Pegasus ,Cassiopeia and Perseus were well placed from my location and I managed to see a grand total of three There were many satellites and it was interesting to watch them and for them to disappear it was a nice change to just look around and enjoy the view
  15. Hi as with most of the UK the weather hasn't been very kind to the astronomy community, Today a small window to observe the Sun appeared at 6-to 6.30 pm the images did not disappoint, with lots of detail to view and I did a sketch I used my Coronado PST with a Baader zoom eyepiece set at 12mm.
  16. Hi Once again I have managed about one hour observing the Sun with my Coronado. I used a Baader 8-24 zoom eyepiece set to 12mm,the image was fantastic with a crystal clear image. There were 3 large prominences any a few smaller ones with the sunspots of varying sizes. The one outstanding feature was a huge U shaped filament with several smaller ones ,the Baader eyepiece produced great all round detail
  17. Hi I managed 10 minutes observing the Sun through my Coronado with a 16mm eyepiece, this has been the first time for a while. There were many prominences one of which was very clear and appeared to breakaway from the surface . there was also great surface detail with plages, sunspots, filaments and mottling
  18. Hi it’s an easy job to make your own dew shield as I have previously stated I have made one for each of my telescopes from a black foam gym mat from Ikea and a tube of suitable glue about a fiver all up
  19. Hi the weather day and night has not been suitable for observing, but today I took advantage of the beautiful weather to observe the Sun using my Coronado. There were three areas of prominences, plages and sunspots of which one was huge . I used my cover to shield the view but it was like a sauna nevertheless it was worth it
  20. Hi I managed 30 mins of solar viewing today with my Coronado There were 3 prominences in view one at 10 o’clock one at 12 o’clock and one at 2 o’clock unfortunately the clouds rolled on in at 1 30 and stopped play
  21. Hi I have been viewing this through my Coronado fascinating to watch A gardener working opposite to my home asked as to what I was doing and he had a look and was amazed this was his first view of the Sun
  22. Hi m grandson came round at 6pm and we spent some time observing the Sun, there were three prominences to view but little else using my Coronado . Later I set up my Celestron se6 and my Celestron Fi5 to initially to view the Moon and my grandson took lots of photos . we then turned to Venus and once again he took some photos, and finally we had a look at Mars and I await the photos . A great night with Patrick and its nice to know another astronomer is in the making a great night
  23. Hi I have spent some time observing the Sun in my Coronado and in white light using my Skywatcher80ED with solar filter Saturday and Sunday the solar action was great today there was little action through the Coronado .but the sunspots in white light were very good
