  1. Hi everyone, Well, after quite a frustrating night I almost didn't bother sharing this one as I'm not really happy with it yet, but I feel it's important to sometimes share "failures" aswell as success! -after all, it happens to us all at every level of this hobby - whether just starting out or years into it! Anyhow, I need to shoot it again (for much longer) on a better night, but that's probably a job for next winter season now from my location. I dont think there was much fundamentally wrong with my capture, just the conditions really. Esprit 120 @f7 2600mc Pro colour camera Optolong L-Extreme dual narrowband filter 17x5m frames, 100 gain. Anyhow, here it is! - I also made a video detailing capture, for those interested, please check it out! Thank you for looking
  2. Beautiful first light, I have the same camera and couldn't be happier!
  3. Hi, I had a very similar issue calibrating l-enhance data from a 294mc Pro, I found flats were only usable when the light source was significantly dimmed and the flat exposures were around 2+ seconds each. https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/661685-word-of-warning-asi294mc-pro-and-opt-triad-and-nb/ A related thread here, if you scroll around half way down the page you'll see cuivenior's posts with images highlighting the almost exact same issue, it seems its a pattern only visible in the deep reds, and the origin is the sensor itself. Hope that helps, don't be discouraged as I found that once I knew what was going on I could work well with the camera!
  4. Hi everyone! Well, the weather finally broke and I got a chance, albeit a small one, to take an image with my new kit! My target was the Rosette Nebula as I feel my chances to shoot it this season are waning fast, it's a bit of an annual target for me - I just never get tired of it This image totals only 17x5m exposures, - 1hr and 25m It was taken with the following equipment - Skywatcher Esprit 120 Super Apo + FF ASI2600MC Pro OSC camera Optolong L-Extreme dual-narrowband filter Neq6 pro This was my first light (aside from setting things up during silly little holes in the cloud) for the camera, filter and my autofocuser. Processed in PixInsight, maybe a bit overprocessed but I went for impact over subtlety for this one! I recorded a youtube video during capture to document my night - it's 8 min long. Thank you for looking! https://youtu.be/a1dxmMiSXOI
  5. nice shot, and for only your 4th astrophoto it's amazing! - I'd only say that the dark areas are definitely green tinted so would benefit from SCNR to neutralize it out a bit
  6. Tremendous image! I've seen this target overprocessed many times but this is just perfect to me
  7. Enjoyed the video, looking forwards to more! Just subbed to your channel Seeing that it's not always smooth sailing even when you have an obsy almost makes it not seem too bad carrying my rig out each time...almost!
  8. Really lovely image! Lots of detail to be appreciated On the note of losing frames on one cam while the other dithers, I know that Astrophotographytool (APT) at least can synchronize dithers for you to prevent that, might be worth a look? https://www.astrophotography.app/usersguide/multi_camera_dithering___synchronizing.htm Hth, Luke
  9. Making full use of what you have available is always admirable! Nice result I'd say!
  10. Really nice shot, and so colourful too! - I must admit to always enjoying a good scan around of tiny background objects even when the frame is dominated by a stand-out target like this
  11. Really nice overall, agree that the halos are a shame but I don't think they overly detract from the image - it's gone very deep however for such a small total integration! Very promising 😃
  12. Well done! You've captured a lovely shot there.
  13. Wow! what a wonderful set of images, my personal fave among them is m63 though!
  14. Nice one! The difference in colour between the background nebulousity and the crescent itself really adds a third dimension to the image 😀
  15. Thank you very much! - I'm really pleased you liked it If you do have a go with your nifty fifty then I'd love to see the results!
  16. Definitely your new image for me, it's leaps and bounds ahead of your already pretty darned lovely original. - I especially like the new colour palette!
  17. Well, the sky promised to clear for a while yesterday (30th jan) - and it sort of kept it's promise! I decided on trying to capture a video of me shooting the Orion constellation in the given window of time using my small setup, an AZ-Gti and eq wedge, canon 700d (modified) and 50mm f1.8 lens. - I also leveraged use of an Optolong UHC filter to try and cut through some of the light pollution. In total I ended up getting basically 100 "usable" subs of 1 minute each, which I stacked in DSS and processed in PixInsight. -(in truth I think every single frame had cloud in some capacity!) I'm quite happy with the end result given the challenging conditions during capture and limited exposure time, worth a revisit on a better evening. Thanks for looking! - here's the video for anyone interested!
  18. Really lovely image, well worth the multi-year effort!
  19. Beautiful image, both versions! - My preference definitely goes to your new edit - Your old image is excellent but this version is another level in my eyes, well done!
  20. Tremendous Rosette, really impressive! - and from a bortle 7 too, just goes to show those filters (and their owner/operator!) are working well!
  21. WOW! - That really is a beautiful m82, your resolution is incredible and the cluster of well resolved background galaxies in the bottom left just make the whole thing have a real sense of depth not usually seen 😃
  22. Lovely shot! - this region just looks so mystical to me, I know basically the whole Orion constellation is a treasure trove of targets but some certainly get less love than others, probably partially due to difficulty of capture, so it's nice to see them!
  23. Thank you all so much for your kind comments 😃 - It's really appreciated, it still seems surreal though!
  24. I did not know that about ASTAP - what a program! I had been using ASPS for years and while there's nothing wrong with it I found the shift to ASTAP to be pain-free and it works so much faster for me - solves went from taking 30/60 sec to just a few. Thanks so much for your kind comments, I really appreciate you watching my video too! after the anxiety-ridden process of actually hitting "upload" I've been blown away by the support and encouragement so far, I definitely feel that doing more is something I want to do Cheers! 👍
  25. Hi! I've lurked around on this site for a long while and always found it to be immensely useful and entertaining, however being a bit of a natural introvert I've never really posted anything until now. -I'd like to change that and not have another year of self-imposed isolation!😃 The weather promised to clear on the 23rd and 24th of Jan, and luckily enough for me they were not wrong! (mostly) - I was blessed with some rare clear skies for this time of year, and even though there was a well illuminated moon visible I wasn't deterred and decided to pick out some potential targets and go for it. This was the 2nd opportunity I've had to test out my new-to-me Esprit 120, and safe to say I'm really happy and impressed with it. the first night ended 'early' by about 1am due to clouds, but the second, after getting off to a shaky start (and an incredible Moonbow!) offered some promise. I was able to capture 48x10m subs divided between S/H/O in total on the Monkey Head between the two nights, and after my target set on night two I was able to move onto the Leo Triplet and chance it to see what I could get with an 80% moon in the sky, things went largely smoothly on that capture, not nearly enough data but enough to process and enjoy, I took 70x3m LRGB subframes on the Leo Trio. after stacking the Leo images I noticed a small streak on the master subs, I decided to try and track it down and see what the source was and after blinking the images in PixInsight I noticed that it was actually a moving point source! Excited at the prospect of spotting an asteroid I made the file into a .gif and decided to put it on Reddit to see if someone could identify it, sure enough some helpful individual did and informed me it was Asteroid 4955 Gold. EDIT - since then two people were unsatisfied with the original solve and spent time to come to a common conclusion, after apparently hours of digging they now agree that it is -most likely- 6361 Koppel, a 3.6m dia rock that orbits at an average of 1.02 AU - discovered at the Palomar observatory. processing and stacking was all performed in PixInsight, which is still quite new to me. anyhow, with no further delay here are my results - The Monkey Head Nebula The Leo Triplet Asteroid 4955 Gold. movement is from 1:49am to 5:31am on the 25th Jan I also recorded a YouTube video for something else to do, I hope it's okay to post along with this here as it's relevant to the images captured? - sorry about the sort of shaky start, as I mentioned I'm a bit of an introvert so felt rather shy! Thank you for reading! Luke
