  1. Great job! @Anne S I'm glad to see it's worked well with an older camera too I hope you enjoy watching some other videos! I appreciate that a lot, thanks! 👍
  2. @Chefgage Thank you! I hope it's useful I actually just today will be releasing a better made tutorial, better audio quality and steady pacing (I feel) - It's scheduled to be available from 1pm onward if you have any interest in it mate! Good luck! 👍
  3. Hey @Chefgage and @Craney! - that's awesome you are liking the look of it, I couldn't really go back from processing in PixInsight now i'm over the initial struggles of getting started in it - it's transformed my imaging! Since the video I posted I've done another couple ones using similar techniques, just really showing that it works on a variety of nebulae and not just something tremendously strong like the Rosette - they might be of use to you if you are interested! Thanks again for checking it out!
  4. Hey all, Over the past week I managed to get a few nights that were usable and decided to go for it with the Crescent nebula! I shot using my Esprit 120, ASI2600mc pro camera and an Optolong l-extreme filter I did 10m exposures, and captured 9 hours in total - I recorded for a youtube video also, so please check that out if you are interested! It was a really surprising result for me, and by far and away my best ever Crescent - very pleased, but onto the next one! Thanks for looking!
  5. Thank you all so much for the lovely comments! - I'm very happy you liked it
  6. Hey everyone, I decided to try getting an early look at the Pelican over a few nights earlier this week - in total I collected 9hrs of data on it in 10m exposures processed start to finish in PixInsight, and captured with a OSC camera and dual narrowband filter - ASI2600mc pro + Optolong L-extreme - shot through my Esprit 120 apo I recorded a video showing my final night of capture too I think this came out really well, and I think it might be one of, if not my best image to date. Thanks for looking! and here's the video -
  7. This one was a bit of a leap in the dark for me! - going in I had no prior knowledge about the target, other than I liked the way it looked and that it framed okay - so why not try it? well, as it turned out - with my bortle 7 sky, it's not an easy target!! this was the result of 10 hours basically, all 10 minute exposures. I'm really pleased with the end result, looking at the subs as they came in it was hard to see how anything would come of it, but in the end things went really well I think! captured with my Esprit 120 and ASI2600mc pro, no LP filters. - processed entirely in PixInsight during capture I made a video too, if anyone is interested then It'll be linked below
  8. Here's my go, really nice data to work with! done in PixInsight A bit more colourful touch on this one
  9. @maw lod qan - Thank you! - That's one of my favorite things to look for when I view DSO images I love seeing the showcase targets, but I do find the background fuzzies in some way just as interesting!
  10. Thank you both very much, I'm really glad to have been able to share my shot with you 👍
  11. Well, I actually had a go at this target about 6-ish weeks ago as part of a video on shooting under the full moon, It turned out alright - but I wasn't really happy and decided I should reshoot when viable. So, here we are! - this is 70x5m exposures with the 2600mc pro, on the Esprit 120 all shot from home in bortle 7 skies I won't say the night went without a hitch, because it didn't - but overall I'm happy regardless I'm much happier with this one now, the darker conditions made the difference! and the video - Thank you!
  12. Very nice job! - well done on a great capture 👍
  13. Really chuffed you guys have enjoyed it! - and thank you for the lovely comments regarding the video too, I have so much fun every time out with astronomy so sharing it in that way with others too is just fantastic! I really appreciate your time also @LuckieEddie - I just cropped NGC5474 for you here, I didn't know if to put more emphasis on this target during the video as it's quite important in the story of M101 itself and it's shape, such an interesting little section so I'm glad you picked it out!
  14. That looks lovely really moody appearance to it which I like!
  15. Thank you so much guys! super pleased you liked it 👍- I'm sorry about the late reply I'm really happy with how it turned out - after many disappointing attempts in the past, it was a relief to not chalk up yet another failed attempt!
  16. Hey guys, I had a good bit of clear skies earlier this week and decided to really go for it on one of my nemesis targets, M101. It's long been a target that I'd struggled to get anything I actually liked from, results wise. - never had I really been happy with a photo I'd taken of it before! well, after a long (but successful) night under the stars, all that changed! now I finally have an m101 i'm proud of. In what's become now the norm for me, I recorded my session and turned it into a video to share my night with others captured in Bortle 7 skies, with a 50% moon in the sky. I used the following equipment - Skywatcher Esprit 120ed super apo ZWO ASI2600MC Pro EQ6 mount no filters I hope you like it! Cheers, Luke and here's the video!
  17. Lovely result! - and what a beautiful setup
  18. Hi everyone! I manged to get out and have a decent session of capture on m63, one of my all time fave targets! equipment used was the 2600mc pro camera, esprit 120apo, eq6 mount, all shot unfiltered from my bortle 7 skies. - 91x3m exposures. for anyone interested in seeing the night's events then here's the video I made to document my night - and here's the image itself - and a crop -
  19. Nice job mate! - very interesting to see them both like that for direct comparison Both renditions are lovely, well done!
  20. @astrocanito - I'm sometimes the same and just want to take a look at an object without making a big project of it Have you considered live-stacking using Sharpcap Pro? you can see the image develop live on screen, frame by frame, which is amazing! - All while making use of automatic frame rejection based on a variety of factors, on the fly flat + dark correction, colour correction, and much more! - I love it for this purpose and really highly recommend it
  21. Hi mate, Not a bad effort for a first go! - it's a difficult target because of it's deceptively low surface brightness as you mention, there are issues with it, but all are fixable I should think! if i may, a few things I see quickly are - darkened corners, this is called vignette and is corrected out with flat frames the ring at the bottom is a dust mote, also corrected out by flat frames the glow to the right is amp glow, - this is usually calibrated out by dark frames which match in every way your light frames, just with the light removed! (e.g, same temperature, exposure, gain, offset, usb speed etc) there's slight trailing to your stars, as you say - shorter exposures could help here but the ideal solution is autoguiding and finally a bit of coma, inherent to Newtonian telescopes, sorted out by a correctly configured and spaced coma corrector! I hope some of that helps you a bit with the physical issues with the image, after that's all sorted you can open the can of worms that is processing!! Please note by the way, this is all just advice in the spirit of being friendly and helpful! - if you are enjoying yourself then you are already doing everything right anyway all the best, Luke
  22. Hey everyone! Well, Saturday night ended up clearing up for me out of nowhere - it was 11:30pm and I went outside with my torch to double check that my pet chickens were locked away for the night when I noticed after my eyes had adjusted that it was clear out! - a quick check of the weather confirmed that this should be the case for the next few hours at least... After a bit of a dry spell in terms of clear sky opportunities I was ready to take any opportunity I could, I quickly got everything out and cooling down while I picked a target. I'd settled on m81 & m82, well positioned and prime targets for a moonless night - about half an hour later of cooling and off I went, the sky wasn't quite as cloudless as the weather forecast promised, but when is it ever? - still, I'd managed to capture 31x3m frames on m81&m82 before losing sight over the house, but the night had really cleared up by that point, - windy, but clear. not wanting to waste the rest of the night, I decided to point my scope over toward the East to take a look at m57 and do a bit of EAA - for this I used 30s exposures live-stacked in Sharpcap with on the fly flat subtraction, it's always pure magic to me when you see an image start to develop on screen in full colour right there in front of you! Anyhow, I had a boatload of fun on an otherwise uneventful night and for that at least I'm thankful! Here's what I got - I also recorded a video of my night if anyone would like to check it out M81+M82, 31x3m frames - 2600mc pro, Esprit 120 M57, 26 minutes total (30s exposures, live-stack) - 2600mc pro, esprit 120. And the video - Thank you for looking!
  23. Hi everyone, Loads of beautiful renditions in this thread so far! - the bar is set very high indeed I decided to have a go in PixInsight, I've tried a lot of different things while doing it so honestly I've lost track of how I actually ended up at this! major things are - Dynamic crop gently stretched all channels cloned r+ha, ran Starnet on both but only kept the star mask from the r channel, combined the r+ha in pixelmath at 50/50 weights, then added back in the r stars to the resultant image lrgb combination DBE a few times over clone the image and run hdrmultiscaletransform on one of them, then pixelmath the two back together with around 80/20 weighting (20 being the HDR one) followed by various operations to mask and saturate selectively while messing around I didn't bother with any noise reduction on this image, I didn't find the noise grain overly offensive lots of fun! I'll probably try again at some point though.
