  1. Thanks, I will give it a try πŸ‘
  2. We have a conservatory also but my wife might not be very pleased if my scopes moved in 😟. The main reason for starting this thread was to see if storing scopes in a reasonably dry garage was acceptable, which would also keep my wife happy.
  3. I am using a 12 v 7amp battery which gives a fully charged reading of between 12.8 and 14 volts.
  4. I recently acquired a skywatcher SynScan controller V4 39 05 to make using my AZ Gti Mount easier to use in the dark, but when I connect it the message both axes not responding appears on the screen. Checking the web revealed a few common problems like not enough voltage and connection errors but after checking these suggestions I have ruled them out. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
  5. Hi and welcome to SGL. Setting up a telescope can be a bit daunting to a beginner but with practise and patience it is a very rewarding hobby. I would agree with Peter that you should follow the instructions and also try adjusting the focuser both ways and try to get your eye acclimatised to viewing through a lens. Also make sure you use the 25 or 20mm eyepiece and check you have removed any lens caps.
  6. Sorry I can’t help you accept to suggest that you be patient until our normally very helpful members have had time to get over their Christmas celebrations πŸ₯³
  7. Same problem for me, I was looking forward to an evening of a brilliant night sky at my daughters in Southern Ireland with my 127 Skymak outside cooling ready for use. We went outside expecting some fabulous views but could only make out small blurry stars until I noticed the lens was covered in moisture along with the eyepieces πŸ˜– However all was not lost because I had my binoculars which gave us a lot of great viewing. I was amazed at how clear the Orion Nebula was with the naked eye as the view where I live is barely noticeable.
  8. Hi Paul, first of all welcome to SGL. I would recommend the dobsonian scope for a beginner because of the ease of setting up and use. EQ mounts can be quite a challenge for beginners IMHO.
  9. Hi and welcome to the forum. It would help if you could give an idea of your budget as there are a lot of choices.
  10. Yes the more aperture the more you will see. After you get hooked on this brilliant hobby, aperture fever usually kicks in making you want the biggest scope you can get πŸ˜€
  11. + 2 for a dobsonian. I got the 200P for my first scope and it cost me less than your budget, it was used and in as new condition. With an 8” diameter it gives some great images.

    Hi Maniek, welcome to SGL.
  13. Seems like a great recipe for a perfect marriage πŸ˜ƒ
  14. Yes it does get hot in the summer but I was thinking about through the winter months, do you leave the heating off ?
  15. That’s because they assume we are technical experts πŸ™„
  16. After reading the thread on keeping your gear in a shed or not, it made me wonder about members experience and recommendations for keeping gear in good condition. This will be my first year trying to keep my scopes in good condition so it will be very helpful to me, and I hope a lot of other new members.
  17. I have watched the Repair Shop for a while now and it always amazes me how skilful those people are. The mount they repaired looked a lot heavier and solid than some modern ones.
  18. If learning not to breathe on your eyepieces is all you have to learn you are way ahead of most of us here πŸ˜€ Welcome to SGL.
  19. I was aware of this procedure with the WiFi app but not the handset, thanks for the heads up.
