  1. Here's a map of Ursa Minor with magnitudes which may help.
  2. I think he's worth more than ten bob...
  3. The Celestron 6" has a rear baffle tube size of 27mm and this will restrict the field of view. Any eyepiece with a field lens of 27mm or greater will vignette on this scope. You may find the 2" diagonal and eyepieces disappointing.
  4. I use the Meade 4000 32mm Plössl and it's excellent. Anyone paying an extra £100 over that for a Plössl has been mugged
  5. My widefield set up. 80ED + 42mm LVW. x14 and 5° field. Mount is flimsy and I need a better focusser. I'd like to give it a paintjob too (the finder is off my refurbed 120mmm).
  6. ...and the odds of successfully navigating an asteroid field are...
  7. I have the 12x36IS bins and they are really good. Great for birdwatching and better than you'd think for astro.
  8. Hi Paul, welcome to SGL
  9. If you are starting out in astrophotography then you need to keep it as simple as possible. Most start with an 80ED refractor on something like an HEQ5 (Usable) or EQ6 (better). What is most important is the mount. As focal length increases so does the difficulty of tracking. Large astrographs require a larger mount and, a lot of skill from the user.
  10. Looks like a great site you have. I shall look forward to seeing this project progress.
  11. I'm going to use four 610x610x50mm paving stones for the base of my pier. This will be sitting on a clay and gravel 'soil' which is rock solid (I have to hack it with a pick). I find one of these paving stones difficult to lift - four are going nowhere and my scope will not be toppling!
  12. Here's a pic of my former Newt, a 250 Skywatcher. A lovely scope but just a bit too big for my dodgy back.
  13. A Dob is a Newt, but not a proper scope The Dob thread excludes proper Newts
  14. One of my ex scopes. I wish I still had this...
