  1. It is fascinating to have seen them develop.
  2. I just read the report on the beeb too. I then looked on the ISS transit finder and lo and behold I've a transit across the sun tomorrow morning over my house, crazy.
  3. Sun Dog's, 20th June, mobile phone pic cropped.
  4. I thought so Stu, never seen them before so chuffed. Thanks for the confirmation.
  5. We're on a hillside over looking other house's, lol. Although I have been known to get on scaffolding when doing DIY, lol.
  6. Hi all, I think I see sun dog's this evening as the sun sets on a beautiful day in the South West of England.
  7. I got mine free three years ago through bresser. Mines been fine since putting new ones in exactly three years ago.
  8. Hiya, I use a 0.5 reducer if I want to do full disk and a 1.5x barlow if I want higher resolution. My 100mm is an f10. Examples of my imaging using the above with the scope.
  9. Hi, the bressers and Lunt are two different kinds of scope. The Lunt is a dedicated solar telescope whereas the bresser is used for white light and calcium II k wavelength. As such the bresser gives a slightly higher resolution because it's working at 80mm. The Lunt is 60mm. I'd certainly recommend the bresser if you're going to use it with a quark. As I said, I use mine with either a Hershel wedge or the Lunt CaK wedge. Mine is the 100mm one but if I was looking to buy again I'd definitely go bigger say the 127 or 150 because of having to stop them down 20mm because it helps with spherical aberration, chromatic aberration isn't worth taking about when using single wavelengths.
  10. Hi, no it was with a Lunt which is given as an example of an achromatic scope as apposed to needing an ED doublet or better. Wasn't intending it to be an example of a quark. I use a plastic tub slightly smaller than the diameter of the bressers front and cut a hole in the bottom of the tub. Cheap and simple. Hope that helps to clear things up.
  11. The proms have it today. Lovely in both CaK and HA. Screenshots for info.
  12. Spherical aberration can be overcome by having a bigger achromat and stopping it down by 20mm Stu. They're cheap enough to go slightly bigger and stop down rather than full blown doublet ED's. And as you say, f8+ too.
  13. You certainly don't need an ed scope, achromatic scope is fine. Solar imaging is only using one wavelength so it doesn't matter. I use cheap achromatic for CaK and continuum, breeser 100mm stopped down to 80mm. My Lunt 60ds is also an achro. Different if you're imaging deepsky or planet's, etc.
  14. I'm forecast rain at the weekend so had to make the most of today.
  15. Glad it's helpful Alan. Goodness, roof removed, that's a huge job.
  16. Hi all, another glorious day of sunshine but seeing wasn't that great. Nevertheless there was some interesting activity. Particularly on the south eastern limb. The new system that appeared a couple of days ago shows some nice magnetic activity although no spots at the moment. This could mean that there could be a further build up of magnetic activity and thus spot forming and maybe flares. On the limb there was a faint but nice spray prominence associated probably with an Active Region coming onto the solar disk. A few small filaproms too which are nice to see wrap around the limb. Screenshots for info.
  17. My frac incarnation. Got to love the sun.
  18. Hi all, was able to get the triple scope's out this morning. Seeing not great but worth a look. Some nice features on disk and limb. Interesting large faint prom in CaK on the South Eastern limb, probably a new AR coming onto the disk in a day or so.
  19. Hi, no the RoR isn't motorized. Just easy to roll back with one hand. I didn't bother to line or insulate the interior of where the telescope's are. I've found no issues with moisture as there's plenty of ventilation. I insulated the warm room mainly for warmth in the winter and doors open in the summer, lol. The dome is a pulsar 2.7m and is great. That's my night time obsy. Bought second hand and renovated. The dome renovation and relocation to where I live now is on SGL if interested. Yeah, my cat's often relax with me in the warm room, lol.
  20. I built a RoR out of a 10ft by 6ft existing shed. The telescope area is 6ftx6ft and the warm room 4ftx6ft. Cost was around £800. I just got some angle iron for the runner's, reinforced each corner, joint and around the top with 2inch x 3inch timber and used 4inch rubber caster's for runners. I'm up and running in 10mins. It's my solar shed. It really is easy, measure, cut, screw and make roof watertight, simples, lol.
  21. Some nice large proms on the South Western limb. Really bright in CaK and HA. Departing AR3014 producing a large faint prom too.
  22. My solar scopes by far, 185 day's last year and in the UK. I'm running at 49 day's so far, below last year (health reasons) hopefully the summer months will bring more opportunities. Including my CaT making a rookie mistake of looking down the wrong end of a refractor, lol.
  23. Unfortunately I missed that due to rain 🌧️. Managed a session at midday though. Magnetic flux is really building up now.
  24. Hi all, Solar observations still continue to exhibit strong magnetic lines in the AR's these should continue to produce more spots or continue with the growth of solar spots. a very interesting AR in the North East region now and seems to be growing in activity. Screenshots in Cak and HA. Still lovely proms in Cak as well as HA. Forgot to do screenshots today so a screenshot of Autostakker with Cak and HA. Lot's of cloud flying past today but at least I managed full disk in CaK and HA, more than I thought I'd get with the on coming storm, very muggy today too, would't be surprised if it's not a thunder storm.
