The sun certainly doesn't disappoint. Great session with Astrocat although astrocat couldn't hack it and fell asleep, lol. Remarkable active area's sunspots, proms, filaments and filaproms. VID_20220305_141954.mp4

Nice views in Calcium II K too, lol 🤣

Thanks, you won't be disappointed.

I really love white light solar observations too. Nothing wrong with that. Granulation is fantastic to observe as well as the changes in spot development over day's. Images taken with just an 80mm ed refractor and Lunt wedge with zwo ASI 178mm camera. What's not to like.

Today's sun and Trying Green Swamp Server today

Unfortunately no other way around it but once done that's it. -
Today's sun and Trying Green Swamp Server today

Hi, I did a polar alignment at night using sharpcap and refined that a little using drift alignment with the sun. Because my setup is permanent I sync on the sun in carts-du- ciel when centered. -

Thanks Pete, appreciated. Yet to process the data, hopefully tomorrow. -
Hi all, had a great session this morning using GSS instead of eqmod. Tack sharp tracking and great views of the sun. Don't think I'll go back to eqmod, lol. Even astrocat agreed, lol

FEB 21ST - SUNSPOT NOT SO SCARY AFTER ALL?
Nigella Bryant replied to paulastro's topic in Observing - Solar
They are quite nice spots in 2955 and 2954, hopefully both active regions as they come more onto the disk. Managed all three wavelengths as of the 22nd Feb. I counted five small spots in AR 2953 as well but the spot yesterday in 2952 has disappeared. -
Show us your set up in action at night.

Nice binoculars. -
Hi Dogstar45, yes, the dome wall's rest directly on the first set of joists. Then I built inside with joists and flooring and decking outside. The reasoning behind this is not to get ingress of water on the inside flooring. I can confirm that no water ingress has occurred even during storm Eunice. I had to get the flooring up a few months ago to install new eqmod cable for my new Eq8 R pro mount head and there was no water or wet under the flooring. It was completely dry. That did surprise me as I'd expected some wet to be around the blocks that the joists stand on. Yes, the pier is built with 300mm drainage pipe and cables run up in that underground using plastic pipe. I used armoured underground cables which is a must. Hope your build goes well and document it for us all on SGL.

Thanks Tony, I've not investigated GSS as of yet because I've used Eqmod for years with my old Neq6. I've still not got good polar alignment as of yet and the awful weather combination with life hasn't allowed me to do drift alignment. Everything else is working well. It can't believe I bought this mount end of September but not got it completely set up yet. Maybe initial setup as with space telescopes do take months to first light, lol.

Solar Activity Today 1st February

Yeah, I can see that too. -
Hi all, just a quick process of today's activity through fast moving cloud's. CaK Lunt b1800 model and 100mm AR scope. Think I caught a C class flare in AR12940.

At least it's an observation 30th January
Nigella Bryant replied to Nigella Bryant's topic in Imaging - Solar
Yeah, 40mile an hour gust's here too today, Monday, but couldn't open the obsy today as I was busy anyway. That AR is naked eye. -

Awwww, thanks Paul, much appreciated. It was nice to see the sun again. To busy today, Monday even though it's clear, did take a look with some eclipse glasses and the large active region is naked eye. I could easily see it without any optical help. -
Thanks Ande, much appreciated.

It's a giant A/R isn't it, just wish I'd had better clear skies to do a close up in WL. -
I've not seen the sun for age's and I only had a brief window of opportunity with cloud's flying by to get just one frame in CaK. Don't laugh, it's an observation, lol.

At least it's an observation, I was the same today, Sunday 30th. Greteful for at least a glimpse of the sun. -
Thanks Nicolas, much appreciated.
